for a beginner, stay electric....look at Traxxas, they make the best starter line-up of any company.
Electric:
Monster truck - Traxxas Stampede, Traxxas E-Maxx
Stadium truck - Traxxas Rustler
But if you want nitro....
Nitro:
Monster truck - Traxxas T-Maxx, Traxxas Revo
Stadium truck - Traxxas Nitro Sport, Traxxas Nitro Rustler
On-Road - Traxxas Nitro 4-tec
now those are easy to maintain and are prefect for a beginner

they make gas powered r/c's too, but nitro is more commonly used because they are cheaper than gas motors and gas motors are found in 1/5th scale and larger models

the S-Maxx is terrible and is just a 2wd T-Maxx with a 2.5 in it, i don't recommend that to anyone, i've had one, ditched it...but yeah, the Slash and Slayer are considered "CORR" trucks, but i forgot about those. I don't recommend the E-Revo either because of the price ....and i'm an 11 veteran

advised by a 25 year vetran.. Slash IS NOT a stadium truck, and the S Maxx IS NOT a Staduim truck either.
Slash is a CORR (Championship Off Road Racing) Truck
S Maxx is a 2WD Monster Truck..... If you are new, STAY AWAY, too much power to just 1 set of wheels.
Check out Associated and Team Losi produsts while you are at it.
In the Traxxas family, Id go with the Revo for Nitro and the E Revo for Electric if the budget is that high ($500)
If not, go with the Rustler series or even a Stampede (those are hella fun)

Rc cars means radio control cars. You can control with the help of radio. It is a self powered cars, which you can easily control from the distance is well. It runs automatic and there is no need of driver in it as well.
