Need help with template for my 3 man tourney

I will be running a 3 man tournament WITHOUT pre registration.

Folks will be arriving in the morning and signaling their intent to play THE DAY OF.

So, I might have 6 teams, or I might have 20 teams. I won't know until the day of the tourney.

WHAT I KNOW: It will be semi auto, NPPL, with guaranteed 8-10 games in prelims, and probably just finals. Very simple, easy to do.

WHAT I NEED: What is the easiest way to plug all the teams into a game schedule template and run the tourney on gameday? I have experimented by printing a 16x16 table out of Excel and playing around with A versus B type of stuff, but I want to make sure everyone has a few games breaks between matches.

HELP ME PBNATION!!!!

Part of this depends on how many teams you have, and how you want to do the prelims. If you want round robin, which seems likely, something like THIS looks like it would do the job. Your best bet is likely to assign teams to the bracket as they sign up, and you'll have to run schedules once you close registration, the day of your event.

Hope that helps!

hmm so i guess the strategy is to print off every possible template for any number of teams, then wait and see how many teams/people show up, and then plug them in?

so as i understand it, each "Round" (vertical column) is an instance where each team plays ONE game.

so if i had 16 teams and i wanted to guarantee 6 preliminaries per team, i would only run the rotation up till Rd 6 correct?

i guess the more teams i have, the less prelims i can offer, unless we'll be playing all bloody night.

What I'd do is wait to plug anyone into any template until you close out registration. Assign the first team in as "A", second team in as "B", and so on. Once you're done taking teams, either at a preset team number cap or at a given time, then you do your data entry into the template.

Correct on guaranteed games - run the rotations until you've hit the number of games you guarantee, then move the top however many teams you want into the finals. You could even round robin the finals if you wanted to make sure everyone that moved forward played each other advancing team.
