Woodsball Scenario only?
I and few friends of mine have gotten bit by the paintball bug and cannot shake it for the life of us. We generally play woodsball and scenario but more along the scenario lines. We have been kicking around the idea of starting a field but what I'm wondering is if there is more of a risk only having those types of fields and no speedball which is what a lot more players play generally. If I'm wrong on that assumption I do apologize. Thanks for any insight that you can give.

If you and your friends want to get a better sense of what's possible
when it comes to scenario play, as opposed to speedball, I'd suggest
you come and 'observe' what occurs during The Oklahoma D-Day
Event. For more about this year's D-Day visit www.ddaypark.com,
or give my office a call.
Sincerely,

There's a scenario only field here. As far as I know, they're doing very well. They are always adding new stuff. The experience is great every time.

Frankly, I'd recommend starting out this way. I don't think speedball provides most fields with the highest ROI. The majority of the rental player base, from which you'll derive a substantial portion of your income, are going to be more inclined towards woodsball and scenario/concept fields. The majority of folks on PBN are tournament style players but they make up a small cross section of the overall paintball player base. Private groups and most casual walk-ons will be woods/scenario style players.
An interesting case study is that one local field here in VA (Warplay) started as a scenario only field. They pull in tons of players on the weekends and had a great reputation for having created a wonderful woodsball/scenario park. A few years after they started some of their regulars convinced them that speedball was the way to go. They leveled some land, graded it, installed high grade turf thinking the tournament players would come. And they really haven't. Their woodsball business is out of this world...but the tournament players aren't paying their bills.
Focus on woodsball and that demographic off the top. I think you'll find yourself more profitable intially and if you go with speedball/turf/etc. do it after you've found success in woodsball and with the right mindset and controls to make it profitable.

Thanks for the feed back as it is much appreciated and helpful. We have an abundance of wooded areas around us that would make it easier to set and through some research found that most players near us don't really like speedball that much anyway so that is also a plus.

I have to agree with lopez, speed ball is a narrow market segment that rarely put food on field owners plates, myself included. I have a 20000sq ft lawn that I'm looking to make into a 50x100 building for reball and two small supair fields, due to the fact that an nxl size air ball field has done nothing to generate more revenue, and is defiantly the most labor intensive field I own ( the nicest, but to expensive to justify).

As my point of view there are no risk to play woods-ball or scenario because woods-ball is a fame which some friends go into woods and play paintball. I think there are 11 players play in a team of speed-ball games.

If I were to go back and do it again, I would make my x-ball field a cool recball field like a COD map. The ROI would have been much better.

Scenario and woods ball are my preferred venues. Too slow and out classed by the kids on the speedball games. Gotta love getting gogged right between the eyes 5 seconds after start

Woodsball is the money maker - its where the new players learn the sport and begin to buy new equipment.
