You really need to talk to your local BMW dealer as you really have no idea what you are looking for. They can sell you a CPO car or a non CPO vehicle and offer you better financing rates and have the expertise to find you the car you want.
BMW offers 4 years of factory warranty and free maintenance and the CPO adds an additional 2 years 50,000 mile warranty only but the extended warranty is not all inclusive. You CAN NOT purchase a private party vehicle and have it CPO'd.
These vehicles are not inexpensive to own and operate. If you have your heart set on one I would suggest leasing a new car for 3 years rather than purchasing.

What Daytona car do you guys own/work on? I love those things. Saw Telmex/DINAN daytona slammed straight into the armco doing atleast 80-90 at impact coming out of a rollercoaster. Driver crawled out of the cage and walked. My love for females was put on hold when I saw that. I used to not like daytonas cause they were unattainable realistically but that. Oh boy...
Anyway I was wondering about the CR cause I have a 2.5L in my M3 right now. Looking to do a high compression race build and slap everyone silly who tells me you have a nice 325 now. Scrubs. Was thinking S50 crank would spin up pretty nicely. Think im going to go for 100 pump.

So looked at this and went to test drive it today.
Looking to trade it for my rav4. Am I an idiot? I want it bad.
What are common things that need to be done with these? Common problems?

Looking at 2002 m3 coupe with a six speed. It has 78,900 miles on it. On an independant dealer lot not a bmw dealership. They are asking 19k canadian for it. Worth it or not? I've read that the m3's are pretty reliable. But at that milage with no factory warranty; am I setting myself up for sone huge repair bills right away?

There is not one day that goes by at work that I do not see a lot of those problems on pretty much every e46 that comes in for service.
Some of it can be easy for the most part (valve cover gaskets), and some of it can become very expensive.
Overall they are solid cars as long as they are upkept as problems begin to happen. The thing with BMW is that if one thing is allowed to continue to become a larger and larger problem before it is addressed and repaired, the repairs tend to snowball. I've seen relatively minor issues with our cars allowed to continue as the customer doesn't think it's a big deal, and them end up with much larger bills when that part finally fails completely and takes a lot of other stuff with it.

Went and drove a 01 530i and it seemed a lot better taken care of. And I just liked driving it more. I just want a car to be nice to drive and can get around and be comfy. I have bikes for the go fast stuff.
