Thinking of getting into speed ball. How's my wishlist?

So I've been playing woodsball for a couple years and I've always wanted to give speedball a try. I was thinking of buying a 2011 Proto PMR, a Invert Too loader, and a 68/4500 tank. I'm not looking to break the bank on this, so chose some relatively cheap but highly rated gear.

I'd look into some pants or kneepads as well, you'll be spending lots of time on your knees and scrambling around on the ground.

I've got some BDU pants I wear while paintballing. Also have some padded knee pads with molded plastic on them, as well as a pair of standard athletic (volleyball, soccer, etc) that I sometimes wear under my pants.

Also willing to get an SLG instead of a PMR. I heard the 2011 PMRs were quite bad and 09 was a good year for the SLG. Found this SLG on the nation, so if I can get a good deal, is it worth the buy? http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.p...ighlight=proto

That list should work fine. The BDUs and knee pads should be okay, too.

Sounds like a solid start. Im going to assume that you are buying this off the nation and not new, and do not know your budget because you did not post your range. Make sure to get a carbon fiber tank and not a steelie since it will be lighter. You can get a used pm6 for cheap nowadays as well, but I personally would stay away from slgs. I havent seen too many work for various reasons. The pm/dm line (6+ not nt, r, etc) are very solid and the older ones can be super cheap. You can look for a used ego5 or 6 as well for cheap.

Look for a poppit and not a spool valve. Most guys that come from the woods are worried about reliability in their markers. Spools are generally going to break more often no matter what anybody else tells you they saw their teammates, brothers, second-uncles DM6 do. It's science.

I will ALWAYS recommend a poppit over a spool to new players or players with only one marker for just this reason.

When you look at poppits you have two main options: 1. stacked-tube poppit or 2. inline poppit

Stacked-tube poppits are probably the better known of the two. This includes Alien's, PE Ego's and BL Intimidators as well as Spyders. Take a look at the Alien Invasion; Zephyr Paintball just did a really good review on it.

Inlines are going to be your Automag and Mini/Axe. A lot of people confuse these with spools because of their single-tube design which most spools have.

If you still want a spool then I highly suggest an up'd G3, an older DM or if you want to spend a little more a used MacDev.

Other than that, your wishlist is exactly what I would recommend for someone on a budget. Just try to find a used tank either on here or through your local shop to keep the cost down. Also, you will be fine in your bdus but you will definitely want to wear the volleyball knee pads under them until you can upgrade to some more paintball specific gear.

i didn't see a price listed for the slg. my friend just sold one for 100 if that gives you any reference. i think it was basically brand new too.

reliability seems to be an issue with the lower end protos. also if you already enjoy paintball you don't really need to worry too much about buying all new stuff and hating the game. i think almost anyone here will tell you that you'll want to upgrade rather quickly too. maybe shell out a bit more coin for a higher end gun? older high ends shoot boss for real cheap. i just sold a dm7 for 275 and that thing shot just as good as any new high end i've shot.

poppit vs spool is something to consider as well but you can figure that out for yourself

Used high end over lowend any day of the week. The build quality on a once $1200 marker will be superior to a $250 marker.

I'd take the 2011 PMR over the slg. I've never heard much bad about the 2011 PMR but slgs can sometimes break a lot. And like he said ^ make sure that you get a good thermal lense mask too (if you don't already have one)
