Fixing up an imp
A while ago someone handed me a box of broken guns, including a non-vision impulse.
It has the gas through front grip and bottom mount HPR.
I just ordered a few things from the sale section.
Vertical adapter and noid + gaskets.
Body so far seems to have the Evil Respirator, Adrenalin Bolt, and pretty much stock everything else.
I am guessing if I want vision then I have to get a new board with vision, eye, and the daughter board right?

Yes unless the previous owner had a vision board in there, but not the eye and/or daughter board. Unusual, but can happen. Unless it is a really old Imp, it should be drilled out for eyes already. Adding in a vision board is easy and, depending on which of the available ones you want, not too expensive. I do have if interested.

I think I'll shoot it with out eyes first.
Might also shoot it, without the VA and new ASA, in its stock form, so I can feel how it shoots before I mess with it more.
My friend used to be all over Imps. So I have seen first hand the difference in a stock and full built Imp.
He had an Iframe with a Matrix trigger and WAS. Shot almost all day on one tank. Only Imp I've seen that Competed with 05 Ego's except in size.

Board has a noid connector but I don't see a ribbon or any other tyoe of connector.
How compatible are shocker parts?
Could I use SFT VA's and boards, possibly frames with slight modding if any?

not very compatable. someone made a shocker board work in an imp..
a universal t board would be easier.
the va wont work and the frame would be a pita
aftermarket frames are harder to come by but there were tons of them so you could find one. i like the adrenalin frame best. but i really like a CP trigger in the stock frame.
you should be able to find a vaa easily. and I wouldnt worry about the vision. I run tons of guns blind. loaders are so fast now even without eyes you will hardly ever chop.

yeah should be getting the stuff this week. Showed my friend the Imp and he smiled huge and wanted to use it this weekend for a scenario in Richmond.
Sounds fun but I don't think I can get up there.
Best way about getting the feedneck off?
Ion necks work right?

yea ion/shocker sft/impulse are all the same feedeck. ion XE will NOT work.
NXT shocker wont work. SFT shocker will work. qlock are some of the nicest feednecks imo. NDZ made a real low one but they are hard to find. usually sold as sft feednecks.
here is the Ndz: http://www.amazon.com/New-Designz-Im.../dp/B0044UAUNO very nice and the lowest. good deal for 10 bucks
to get it off I have never had to use anything besides a strap wrench. if it is loctited on really tight you might need some heat... the good thing is usually you wont care if you mess up the old one.

Depends on the feedneck and the year. If I am not mistaken, the early early early Imps had a non-threaded press in neck. If it is one that has slots and a lever to tighten the band around it, loosen the lever and flip the band off. Then put something metal through the slots (I use a metal ruler) and twist left. A strap wrench can be used if there are no slots like on a smokestack. You may need to loosen the neck with heat. Boil some water and put the neck in upside down. The heat will travel up to the threads and soften thread lock if it was used.
Is the non-vision board locked? Check on the Impulse-Owners page. You may be able to upgrade the chip to have an ECS board with firing modes etc.. Like a Blackheart.

LOL. I have that one on another ion. I have and I can't get it off the breach.
I might just pick up another. Thanks.

brass hammer isn't stock, i would pull it off if i were you.
brass hammers were way heavier than necessary, on the imp i had i just ran stock hammer+NDZ short bolt, and i didn't have issues running such light internals.
i didn't run a LPR on mine either.
with regards to triggaz, i would go CP if its the bearing trigger.
if their impulse triggers are the same as their matrix triggers, then the CP is one of the best triggrars of all time (srsly. i love their matrix bearing triggers...imp version should be the same goodness.

is the stock ram silver with some porting? Also I think the brass might okay but I will definitely look another after I get it shooting.

Also I am fine with the trigger it has. I don't plan on ripping long streams just some bursts.

are you talking the stock ram or the stock hammer? if the hammer is silver with porting you have a rathole which is about the best available. if it is brass I would try to get rid of it. they can cause problems and are clunky and slow moving. they used to recommend an optimum weight but i always ran the lightest internals i could find.
the cp would be a world better than the stock trigger but if you are happy no need to change. good thing about impulse parts is they are very cheap!

Also Found a couple plexi grips(SPD?) The gun is already looking pretty good.

yea usually loctited the hammer on. dip it in some hot/boiling water to get it loose. NDZ made a hammer tool but i never saw a point to spending the 10-20 bucks on something you might use once or twice in your life.
post up some pics!
