550ti

560ti

$280

what exactly did $145 more dollars get me?
the 560 has 2gb vs 1gb, 256bit vs 192bit, and 384 processor cores vs 192 processor cores. otherwise the 550 has better numbers. im worrying that the 550 is better value or i should have gotten two 550tis for the same price as one 560. or is the 560 just two 550 squeezed into one card. hmm fascinating world this is

Not to nitpick but you'd be better off doing a 460 vs 560ti question, heck you might even want to ask what a 560ti 448 would bring to the table.

edit:

Wat.

A little less than double frame rates in most games. Here is a more explained comparison:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4221/n...p-short-at-150

Basically the 550ti is using a much less powerful graphics processor, but it happens to be doing so using bigger numbers that don't mean anything when comparing raw power across two platforms. 550ti is a ****ty GF116 based card and the 560ti is a much more powerful GF114 based card.

I think I got this right anyway. The naming conventions are stupid. Lowest graphics card numbers gets the highest numbered graphics processors. Or something.

I would think you'd be better off going with a 6870, given those prices. If I remember correctly it's slightly less powerful than the 560 Ti. You can get this XFX one for $130 after MIR ($30) and instant rebate. The version with a dual-fan cooler is a bit more expensive, and I'm not sure what the difference in cooling actually is.

Guys, I'm pretty sure he already bought the 560ti. Hence all the usage of past tense in his post.

You can't always compare clock speeds. It's far from the only thing that determines the performance of a card. Go look up some benchmarks.

I am building a new pc, but I am in need of advice for the motherboard..

I am going with an intel i7 LGA 1155 Processor and I already have 8gigs of PC1600
I am looking to get a mobo in the 200-250 range give or take 20 i guess.. with SLI capabilities. I keep thinking I find one but then I read recent reviews and most say either doa or bios issues. I'd like one that I can know that it will work from the first time and on.

Heres what I have in mind for a few of the specs
i7
Video
SSD
HD
RAM

The ram is the only thing from that list I do have, all the other components, including PSU Case, Processor Heatsink I do have as well
I'd like to get you opinion as well if you think I should change something in my list... The processor socket type can be 1155, 1156, 1366, or 775 since I already have my heatsink I intend on using.

I am open to suggestions, if you'd like to know what else I am already have and just a complete list I can post what I have

Thanks

I don't think you want a 775 socket for an 1155 processor.

Sockets 1156, 1366, and 775 are all outdated at this point, replaced with 1155 and 2011.

When I SLI 2 cards, will they appear and function as one on the computer or should they still be seen as two separate entities?

Just a little heads up on my experience with latest Nvidia 296.10 WHQL driver. I haven't had some of the issues that people are reporting (artifacts, overheat, BSOD... to name a few). Drivers are working great on the games that the drivers enhance mentioned in the 296.10 description... and the FPS are fine in those games for me. However, scores in 3Dmark11 are a little lower compared to previous drivers... but still decent. Might be a futuremark thing. I'm going to stick with the new drivers for now since the games I currently play seem to perform well with the drivers... but most people have better luck with 295.73.

What do you mean?

Once you set them up, you shouldn't notice any difference day-to-day. And you can turn SLI off if for some reason you need to.

I'd look at the new z77 mobos that they just released. you want a mobo with the same socket type as your processor.

Pretty sure he meant that he would change the processor if a suggested motherboard did not have the same socket type. I don't think he was saying that a motherboard with those sockets would work with his processor.

Is triple channel not really a thing anymore?

My mobo has it, but it's 1366, x58

Dual or quad for mainstream. Lga 1356 xeons will use triple, though
