Barrel Plu vs. Squeegee vs. No barrel vs. Barrel Condom/Sock
** This forum goes towards Versus, Safety, and New Players **
I just wanted to make this forum to see what people use at the field. I know fields let barrel plugs, squeegees, and removing of the barrel slide for players. If the marker goes off when you are doing this it can be a nasty sight, someone could get shot in the staging area, some newer players might see it and get scared, and you could possibly be banned from the field. I wanted to make a comparison of the four so newer players know a little background. I also want to hear what you use and why The following description is just my opinion, not facts.
* Barrel Plug * The barrel plug is one of the least safest barrel blocker of all. After a couple of shots, or even one shot, this plug can be projected by the force of the paintball. If the marker goes off and is pointed at a person the plug can project by the force of the paintball(s) hitting it and can serious injure and even kill them.
**NOT RECOMMENDED**
*Paintball Squeegee* The squeegee is not a recommended barrel blocker. The squeegee is just like barrel plug, if shot out of a barrel it can projected and serioulsy injure or kill someone.
**NOT RECOMMENDED**
No barrel I'm not no expert about air pressure outputs and such put I do know even though paintballs shot out of a marker without a barrel don't go that far it can still post a threat for injury and death.
**NOT RECOMMENDED**
Barrel Condom/Sock The barrel condom/sock is the most recommended of the four. The barrel sock is the proved the safest barrel blocker because of its ability to block around 15 paintballs before staring to rip. If you think about that, those $5 are worth it considering the condom/sock is being shot at point blank with 275-300 FPS (hopefully not higher) This is the most recommened barrel blocker and should be the only one.
RECOMMENDED
If I missed something feel free to add something or correct me on things because I haven't been in the sport as long as people on PBN Not only that but I didn't re-read it

i highly doubt a squeegie would kill or even injure someone. granted, it isn' safe, but c'mon.
i've shot squeegies out the barrel before and they fly like 10ft. me throwing one at someone would cause more damage.

A squeegee flying 10ft. at a high speed towards someone's head, groin, eye, so on sounds painful to me.

So when it hits someone 2 ft away, how much energy is left?

Considering a poorly stretched barrel sock(it is loose) is just as bad as not having anything on you really need to work on that list.
In order that I would use
1. Well stretched sock, no matter how many times you shoot it, it will bounce back in place.
2. Barrel plug, an average barrel plug will take several dozen shots to shoot out.
3. Squeegee, it will take a bit less time than a barrel plug to shoot out, but it should stop 5-10 depending on the squeegee.
4. Finger in the barrel, this is going to stop one because your natural reaction is to pull it out.
5. Loose sock, this isn't even protection, the gun will shoot it right off and continue on it's way.
But really... who accidentally empties a hopper? Except the loose sock they will all work just as well if it accidentally goes off.

if you put any of the normal "barrel blockers" , it will stay in long enough for you to realize your shooting a few shots. i would suggest a barrel sock though since i have yet to see someone put them on wrong or fly off.

Barrel condom, plain and simple. I have seen so many people just loop them over the barrel and forget to string it around the gun, then watch it fall off 2 seconds later as they are talking to their friend. Barrel bag in good condition stretched taught around the gun. Its not about giving people time to realize they are shooting, to me it is about preventing the fluke incident that happens now and then, like a gun bouncing away in full auto after being dropped.
