What Phone?

I'm going to purchase my first smart phone sometime in the very near future (Within 1-2 weeks), and am having trouble with what is the best phone for my use. It seems like everyone has an Iphone, but is there something better out there? The only smart phone I really have any experience with is the Iphone so I don't know the competition.
Im looking for:
-Good camera
-Good music platform
-Fast internet
-Good application availability

Do you like tooling around with things constantly or do you want a phone that just works?

Android phones are almost all buggy. iPhones tend to be much less so. I wouldn't consider blackberry or winmo at this point.

as much as I hate to recommend it, an iPhone would suit your needs nicely.

then again, so would something like a Galaxy Nexus, but there's a trade off with ease of use. With the added learning curve, though, comes greater flexibility.

I have an iPhone. It's the only thing I don't want to tinker with in my life, so it works well for me.

Having owned multiple Android and iPhones I have to say... it's up to you.

The only thing that I prefer the iPhone drastically over any current Android device is the camera. I have kids so I'm always taking photo's and I found that my iPhone 4s (and even previous 4) camera performed a lot better than my Android counterparts... but that's my personal opinion (although a lot of reviewers mention the same thing).

The difference comes down to overall performance, especially in low light. In bright light most pictures, to the general glance, are similar.

Other than that... go with what you like. Both have tons of apps, similar features, perks and drawbacks. It's all about what you prefer to hold in your hand and use.

Hell, I'm even entertaining playing with a WP7 phone because I got one during that WINDOWS PHONE CHALLENGE for free so I figured why not at least give it a shot.

It's all about what works for you. Specs, to a point, can mean nothing if you don't need them so go with what you dig.

Thanks for the advice.

On a side note, if I choose to go down the Iphone path, is it worth waiting for the iphone 5 to come out?

Waiting on new technology is pretty pointless. Things update so frequently that no matter when you purchase it, it will always be outdated in a few months.

I've had quite a few Droids and I have to say that the next phone I get will probably be an iPhone. Yeah, it's nice tinkering with **** for a while, but in the end I just want something that ****ing works. I hate Apple, but the iPhone is basically the best option for that, IMO.

Personally, I've never had a problem with my Evo. It works just fine. It has really assy battery life (probably because the battery frequently overheats when I have it in my car mount) but at least I can swap in a fresh battery.

There is a chance the next release will restart the June release cycle so it may only be a few months away. I don't think you need to wait though. The 4S is a great phone and will be for quite some time. It fits most of the qualities you want anyway, being a great camera, great music services but most services like Spotify, MOG, Rdio or even iTunes are available on just about every platform, Verizon doesn't have the best 3G service in terms of data speeds from what I've seen but I think it'll get you by, and the app variety is arguably the best for any phone platform. If this is your first smart phone, I'd lean towards to iPhone because it is very easy to use.

I love my 4s. It just works and has a great camera. Some of my favorite pictures have been taken with it.

That being said I've heard great things about the Moto RAZR as well.

Being strictly android and going to iPhone, it'd take one hell of an android device to get me to switch back

I, actually, had the RAZR. A few months ago my wifes Droid broke, and she needed a phone immediately. The 4S had just come out, and was on backorder everywhere. So I gave her my iPhone 4 (because she needed one immediately) and went and picked up a Droid RAZR. I took it back a week later, and ordered a 32GB iPhone 4S.

It's a nice phone, but it was awkward to hold for me (even with large hands) due to the size. Plus the LTE was just destroying the battery life. I could turn it off, but that defeated the purpose since I only needed it when I wasn't near WiFi anyways.

My wife "oopsed" the iPhone 4, but it's covered under stock warranty. Guess Verizon doesn't have any iPhone 4's left for warranty so they're giving her a 4S.

just get a verizon iphone, and don't base a phone off of its camera. Cameras on phones are all junk. Unless you're a high school girl in which any camera is a good camera.

Always there is a competition in-between iPhone and Samsung galaxy, if you want a better smart phone other than iPhone, I would suggest to buy a Samsung galaxy S series mobile.

Then get a better camera...My girlfriend has the 4s and shes obsessed with it and the camera, but if she wants to really take a picture she pulls out a dedicated camera.

The only phone I could possibly imagine replacing a dedicated camera is the Titan II with its 16mp and even then thats still pushing it cause theres more then just the amount of pixels at play for a good camera.

If your a "social hipster" and always interested in what the "next big thing" is get an iPhone. If you like tinkering with your phone and making it unique and personal get an android, and if you wanna be able to turn your screen on and see everything you need to know and then get back to your life get a WP7.
