The Chicago Heretics paintball team was formed in 2007 to compete in 10-man woodsball tournaments and to make a major impact at scenario games, but we occasionally play in tournaments and recreational play as well. Fox Paintball in Millington, IL is our home. We play mostly in the WI, IL, IN area and travel across the nation for up to three tournaments a year. We also have practices at Fox Paintball about once a month or so.
Whatís this I hear about tryouts?
We have a tryout period before we vote on new members of the team. We are less concerned with your current gun fighting skills, and are far more concerned with your attitude; how friendly you are and how willing you are to improve as a player. We can teach you to play, but we canít fix doucheí. This also gives you an opportunity to recruit us, to make sure the fit is there for you. There are few things worse than getting on a team and realizing it isnít a good fit.
Teammates come first in competition and at scenarios.
We like to and have had professional players fill out our line at competitions, but only if a spot is available. No Heretic sits on the sideline if they could have played. Integrity is key for us; we expect no cheating, no lost tempers on the field and every effort to minimize cursing. Clean play and respect for our opponents is how we roll.
So, do I have to run a Bob Long marker and Ninja tank?
Yes. We are sponsored by Fox Paintball, Splatterzone Paintball, Bob Long Technologies and Ninja Paintball. We represent them on the field and they treat us very well. That does NOT mean you must have a BL gun and Ninja tank when you start trying out for the team. In fact, we prefer you donít change your set-up during this time unless you were going to anyway. Once you are on the team, you will be expected to get a Bob Long gun within a reasonable time. We have BL guns you can use in the meantime. Also, Bob has been making exceptional guns for a long time, you donít have to get a new one. Keep that in mind.
I hear I have to make a certain number of games per year or Iím off the team.
WaitÖwhat? Thatís not really accurate. We expect members to make it to at least 5 designated games per year. If you canít make 5 games for good reason (family, injury, finances, etc), no problem. If you donít make 5 games for no reason, you will be suspended from participating in sponsorships for the next year. Thatís all. You are still on the team, you just donít get the benefits of sponsorships. If you make your 5 games during that suspension time, you are back to full status for the next year. We arenít weird about this, but we represent our sponsors, so we have to have ďface timeĒ on the field.
