I have been playing NPL format for a month now and been having a blast... If you have not played this format and are just reading the rule book then your missing out on a super fast and fun game... I have been away from paintball for six years and would not have come back if not for this new format.... Paintball is never gonna be cheap to play but with this format you get three times the games at a faster pace with half the paint... This is a win win in the eyes of a tourny player... As a father of two young boys and a heavy baseball schedule I can show up and play my game in 90 minutes and be home to mow the yard.... How many formats can offer you that much game time and have you home in two hours?? I have played every format to date and this has a shot to do something, people just need to PLAY....... Stats (full 4 quarter game) 90 minutes = 2000 balls, 24 points or (games) and one super tired team.......

Then you have to have your mask match your pants match your head band match your shoes. unless they have a deal with nike or something. i don't see this happening.

I forsee this NPL being the Soccer equivelant to paintball. 90% of the games will end 1-0 or will just be low scoring. I am an X-ball kinda guy. were you can run up the score 20-0 cause you have two i think 25-30 min halves. old school xball all the way
Matching is for higher divisions and thats not how XBall is played.

the whole regional ladder already exists with the psp's affiliate leagues.
Why do you hope it fails? How does it affect you if it runs? The regional ladder does not work with PSP. You do not qualify for anything. It's just another thing for the PSP to charge for. How does that benefit you?

It effects a lot of people by potentially splitting the player base between formats. There is already a lot of hate for the "NPPL vs PSP".

Not that I care either way, just saying.

This is geared to players that don't have organized teams. Also participation in PSP and NPPL is down from years ago. What about all the other leagues?

investors, sponsors?

Also.
I'm entirely in favour of having one main league.

having the psp and nppl was enough trouble. Having to deal with another league on top of that is just bollocks.

and i've been playing tournament paintball for years now, with heavy sponsorship.
tried this format this past weekend during practice with all teams practicing at my field.
not one player was happy. we'd rather play boring NPPL 7 man.

i sincerely hope the psp people crushes the npl with their wallet and phonebooks.
the sooner the better.

UPDATE:
the nice folks over at NPL "answered" my question via PM, if you can call it that.

Quote:
Howdy,

Thank you for the subjective post as I am unsure if you attended the same game demonstrations we hosted in both San Antonio and Dallas where not a single complaint was heard other than not having scoreboard clocks on the field.

We respect your sponsorship deals and congratulate you on achieving such a high ranking and level of performance that you play paintball for free; truly a remarkable accomplishment. If we may ask what team were you referring to?

As for investors and sponsors, we are interested in understanding what your views are on why it is of importance since the NPL is comprised of local fields.

The NPL staff and leadership applaud both PSP and NPPL's leadership for being captains of industry and supporting tournament paintball for all this time. However, their tournament series' are not in competition with the NPL as we are a league of fields and not a stand alone entity.

We are sure that both leagues have better things to spend their money on than trying to crush a league that is comprised of field owners as to crush such a league is to support the closing of local fields and or the reduction of Speedball at their fields.

Vr,

NPL Support Staff

If you are a psp fan or an nppl fan it really doesn't matter.... Paintball started on our home fields and without those home fields you wouldn't have your cute sponsors or your pro paintball period..... Time to give back to the local fields, the ones that made paintball what it is.... Anything to increase participation and help our local fields sounds like a win win to me....

that's something i can agree with, being my own field's manager.

the format (as a sportsman it's very important to me) sucks on NPL, simple as that. I'd rather go bowling.

but home field participation needs to be made a priority. i hope the big leagues learn from this aproach.

It's not about getting every field in the world their own league. If there's a different league at every field then no league will have enough players to keep itself up

The concept isn't to take away, the concept is to add a Home based league at a fraction of the cost.... It's working as I spent less money on game day then I do playing a day of rec ball.... That's where its at, making competitive paintball affordable for everyone to play every weekend....

so this will be a home-grown series with local teams and players banding together to save costs? Then who will provide the matching headbands and shoes and barrel bags and underwear? Looks like it could be fun as more of a novelty game or as opposed to the elimination speedball played at local fields now you can give players the option. Beyond that, I dont know.

What was lacking in the traditional, established formats (race-to, NPPL-style scoring) that made your organization feel it was necessary to create an entirely new format?

i hardly see how their format catches even a fraction of the true the essence of competitive paintball.

you want to play really competitive paintball and shoot less paint?, play pump.

"for players without organized teams"
well, that makes the whole extensive matching outfits make sense now.

PSP (the main league IRL) should follow the local field initiative and create or endorse regional feeder tournaments that produce regional champion teams that are then sponsored to play at the big PSP events.

I understand but your opinion is based off the style of paintball you like.... What's the correct way to play paintball? That's not for you to decide, its for the people that fill your fields....

How would PSP stay in business with this system?

PSP gets money from mainly two sources: teams tournament payments and vendors and you would like to take off the other pillar of their existence?

The us tennis association, and many other sports, operates with a local system that leads to a national championship.

The system actually broadens the base and makes tournament paintball more accessible. I just don't see why a new format is necessary.

No they wouldn't, entry would still go to PSP, and it would encourage more lower ranked teams to participate! The "PSP" teams would still go to national tournaments. I just think that would promote more teams to compete at a higher level, also making a higher standard of playing.
