Captain?
So, me and some friends are just starring to play as a team. The last couple of weeks I have been trying to convene them that we need a captain. They have completely rejected the idea though. For the most part I agree, but I still sort of think that we need one. What dO you guys think? And why.

If you play tournaments not having a captain will make captains meeting a bit peculiar. Get a captain, or name a team sport that doesn't.

Find out from them why they don't want one? Every team I have been on has a captain. He acts just like every other player, but he/she is also responsible for making sure the team is signed up for event, making sure people have payed their share of the entry, and is the person who will interact with tournament officials if there are any issues. If you don't have someone who can be captain, then getting ready for tournaments will be a little difficult, since most registration systems want a team captain so they have someone to contact if needed.

I know you guys are just starting a team so maybe a more experienced player at your home field on a different team might be open to being a coach? Thats the only option i see if they are 100 percent against a captain.

Don't need a team captain, can rotate who goes to the captain's meeting. At higher levels, need a team captain, but often they aren't one of the players.

Often, starting a newer, younger based team is going to be hard. Everyone wants to shine! Everyone is going to be bull-headed! The only thing I would advise is taking your most responsible player, naming him "captain". The word "Captain" doesnt mean extra power! The word "captain" means a leader! An adviser of the team!

I would encourage a captain.
People can be drama queens and want to do there own thing and sometimes there needs to be someone to just tell them to shut up and do what they need to do. Naturally you and your team mates will disagree on some thing. Things like what paint to buy for a tournament. Or who sits out a point. There needs to be that one person who has the ability to make the final call.
Of course the team controls the Captain as well. The team can control the amount of power invested in the captian. But if you choose someone who has the best interest of the team in mind you should be fine.

Captains help organize the players. If you have a captain he needs to be respected and well liked by everyone.
