I haven't done any searching on this forums for an AJAX chat, so I don't know if this has already been implemented, but it is very useful.

I've participated in a handful of gaming forums, and they have used an AJAX chat in conjunction with forums.

My favorite implementation of AJAX chat was when a forum had it integrated at the top of each page of the forum. It was pretty nifty.
