Best way to STRIP ANODIZING
At last, I am home.
In the late 90's my 98 was a diff color and diff gun every week. I cut, ground, and welded any thing I could. And loved every secondof it.
Ok, so today, I'm BACK INTO PB! After not even so much as picking a gun up since 05 here I am. And there is work to be done! Glorious, labor intensive, painstakingly tedious, Fun!
I need a chemical stripper to remove ano from aluminum, a very valuable piece of alum - HSW.
And with all the mad scientists roaming around here i knowe there has GOT to be someone that can tell me the best way/product to do so.
Help a returning fellow explorer of the mechanical arts out?

lye and distilled water. the more lye you use the more aggressive the stripping will be.

And "what else" will it do to my gun and it's internals?

lye can be bought at any hardware store. It's used to unclog drains. make sure you buy pure lye not just drano. you can get it in a powder form that mixes well with water.
safety precautions: lye and water make an exothermic reaction so it can and will get very hot if you mix lots together. also, lye attacks anything organic...you are organic... 
Lye will pit aluminum if it's left in it too long. I suggest soaking for short amounts of time, wipe it down, clean stubborn areas with a soft toothbrush, and repeat. also lye will strip quicker when warm, so let it cool off after mixing it up initially. |
