Help trying to change University Gun Policy towards markers

Hello Everyone, I need some help. I'm am almost done with my proposal to start a paintball club at my university. My one problem is that our university considers paintball markers as a gun and they are not allowed on campus. I've already talked to campus police and they have agreed to support me 100% in getting this changed to benefit our club. I also have the support of the head of student activities.

What I need from the paintball community is help from all you other college players out there. I need to know a few things to help me build my case to present to the Policy Committee. Please send me a private message with any answers you may have to my questions. The more details the better.

What's the name of your school?
How long has your school had a paintball club/team?
Is it a club sport, intramural, or an athletic team?
What is your school's current gun policy towards paintball markers?
Has it always been that way or did you have to get it changed?
If you had to get it changed, what changes did you propose?

Again the more information I get the better. This is the last thing I need to get a club started at my university. Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

University of Houston. we have been up and running for 2 years now, this being our second year. Our school does not mind having markers on campus as long as proper safety is provided. We do certain events on campus and have never had a problem.

It was hard to get a program started, 3 other people/groups had tried prior to me.

The best advice is to have a ton of information on hand, show the amount of schools that participate. What helped us out was that the recreation center was looking to expand on competitive teams they had and we were lucky enough to join. We get plenty of help from our school. The most we paid this year was $200 per player including all of the 4 tournaments we attended.

We are also in the same boat in that we need to convince our administration that paintball guns are not weapons, and therefore should be allowed on campus.

We have full backing of Club Directoate and Director Inter-Collegiate Athetics

MArkers are allowed on campus just not in the barracks.

You need to have an SOP (standard operating procedures) or set of rules to deal with any questions college boards may have about safety i.e. accountability and place of storage/location of meetings

What's the name of your school?
University of West Florida

How long has your school had a paintball club/team?
We are in our 3rd year

Is it a club sport, intramural, or an athletic team?
sport club

What is your school's current gun policy towards paintball markers?
Cant be in resident halls and can't be fired off field (we have paintball fields on campus)

Locker space available for the markers on campus.

Has it always been that way or did you have to get it changed?
The addition to fields outside is new this year. Other than then the policy towards marker from what I know it didn't have a policy until a few years ago because a student brought one and campus and the policy been the same. no issue with how it is.

We have had an NCPA team since 2007

Is it a club sport, intramural, or an athletic team?
Club Sport

What is your school's current gun policy towards paintball markers?
We are not allowed to have markers on campus/in campus housing, so we store them at off-campus team members apartments. We do not have on-campus facilities so this is not a big deal.

Has it always been that way or did you have to get it changed?
Always been that way and will not be changed

If you had to get it changed, what changes did you propose?
Storing with the campus police was proposed

What is your school's current gun policy towards paintball markers?
Official stance: Not allowed in dorms. Allowed at fields on-campus or disassembled in car trunks.
Unofficial stance: "Check with your RA and let them know you are on the Paintball Team, and don't be stupid with them..."

Has it always been that way or did you have to get it changed?
Originally we were told to have them stored at the Police Department, but that changed with the growth of the team and the addition of the paintball fields on-campus. Also having a shooting range on-campus helps too.
If you had to get it changed, what changes did you propose?
We just went through our office of Club Sports and they were very understanding. Club Sports has our back.

That should help you a lot. Obviously don't refer to wikipedia, but instead use their sources.

Thanks everyone for your help. I just got done talking to the head of student activities/services. I have her full approval and backing. Turns out the university policy doesn't have anything specific about paintball markers, so she said we are good to go as long as we follow the safety rules and regulations we've put into our constitution/bylaws.
