Is it just bad luck or something more?

So I have been paintballing for about a decade now and I've been up and down the ropes a few times -- mostly been a lone-wolf player, but I have been playing with a few friends to groups and with teams. Now I have no idea why this is, but I seem to have been stricken with the 'bad-luck-angel' or something, because my gear seems to almost always fail each time I go to paintball, and whereas my friends/acquaintances seem to always have functioning gear. More often than not, my marker is the biggest issue that I have when it comes to paintball, despite me being pretty knowledgeable and caring, they stab me in the back any way. Then it would be my hopper, then my tank, then my gun, then my gun, then my..gun. And finally when I get everything working, it's almost time to leave. A pretty productive day huh?

Oh my gloves don't work! --Nah, I'm kidding

Is it just me or are there others with this curse as well?

i had it, then i ditched my cocker, and i went out and just bought myself some really reliable gear. (back then when i finally gave in i got myself a halo, 05 ego, and a x-fire tank)

and that worked wonders and i finally got out of the funk i was in.

now i use my SL94, rotor, and x-fire tank with a CP reg.

simplicity is your best friend i found.

Same here. Just on Sunday my god damn Exalt speed feed broke. Now I can't use my speed feed and want some free speedfeeds. Also, my battery door on my Empire Too broke, and it's taped and ghetto as ****.

That's why I bought an ETek 3, and only take my old Pilot as a worse case scenario back up gun.

^Dude I havent "cleaned" anything In the last couple months (my gearbag smells like a dead hooker) and everything I own I pull out and it works fine. My axe I put through mud and didnt clean and it still shoot money every time I air it up, my sniper shoots money every time I air it up, and I havent gotten sick yet despite the plant growing from heel to toe of the cleat I stuffed in a paint bag because it was soaked and muddy so Id say its time to get some new stuff that isnt gonna fail on you constantly

I seemed to have had that happen lately to me as well. Just the other Saturday I was playing and I couldn't get one thing going for me for at least an hour and a half. When my team played at the last Night Ops at PSI, we had about 4 or 5 markers go down and scrambled to make sure we were ready. Can never seem to catch a break it seems.

Happens to everyone eventually. In nearly a decade, i'm surprised you haven't experienced this level of "luck" before.

Happens to me at least once a year, primarily because i'm always trying something new, or something different, or something upgraded, or whatever. Live & learn, i guess.

The move from my Tippman to my Electric marker has been difficult, and I think I've made it through.
Just remember to clean your stuff every time you go, I clean my pants, pod pack, pods, and mask first. Then I sit down with a soda and clean my gun piece by piece and every month I do a full maintenance.
Keep your marker happy, and it will keep you happy. 'Nough said.

Oh yes I take good care of my equipment, but "good" can't even begin describe. I am meticulous when it comes to making my gear be in tip-top shape, which is ironic because they more often than not are cease to function at the most worst time possible. It is even more ironic that my friends and colleagues whom I paintball with on occasion that don't take care of their gear end up having the most reliable setups. SIMPLY FASCINATING. Now I am not out of a day of paintball because I do eventually get my gear working to play, it's just that things go South at the most inopportune moments. It's just one of those things where you stand still, take a deep breath (or sigh), and slowly do a face-palm (enjoy it, because rubbing your forehead actually feels good)

Great input, fellas!

In my experience the kind of gun matters at this point. Every one I've owned has been my baby and been cleaned and maintained as such, but to even at that to say my shocker was as reliable as my 98c was... long shot. I blew something on that gun that I couldn't fix, and my certified tech friend couldnt fix. Swapped and rebuilt every part on the damn thing and it still didnt want to shoot until one day it just decided to work again. Its not always the user and its not always the gun, and when fate will have it, its neither.

My mech cocker gave me fits the last two times I went to the field. LPR issues and broken detent, then bore and detent problems.
I always maintain my gear, and check any new mods at home before going to the field.
Just happens to people sometimes. Luckily it's the exception and not the rule.

I had the exact same experience. My AutoCocker NEVER worked. I sold it and bought a Tippmann. Problem solved.

This. Last season I washed my **** like once a month (playing at least once a weekend). When I was shooting an ego I got the way I wanted it then lubed it every 3 weeks or so, the geo was like every two weeks. I didn't have any problems at all. You just need more reliable gear, man.
