Those of you laughing at me when I said Justin Smoak is a promising prospect:

2011, Healthy: .270/.360/.470 (367 plate appearances)
2011, Injured: .130/.213/.176 (122 plate appearances)

Quote:
"Yeah, it was bad," [Smoak] said. "I get jammed and my right thumb was messed up. Then I take a bad hop off the left thumb, and it was that big around (making a wide circle gesture) and I couldn't move it. It's hard to hit when you don't have your hands."
That triple slash line, extrapolated over a full season, is worth 3 WAR. A healthy Justin Smoak is an impact bat. Numbers don't lie.

Smoak and Guti stand to be substantially better from last year (one recovering from 2 terrible thumb injuries, the other recovering from diverticulitis or some ****) Ackley, Smoak, Guti, Montero, Carp, and an Ichiro that plays closer to 2010 than 2011 is a league average offense. League average offense is genuinely exciting for Mariners fans, that's the sad part.

So, just curious

Who here thinks that 17 million per year for the next 8 or 9 years is OVERPAYING for Ryan Zimmerman?

For how inconsistent Zimmerman has been thats Beyond overpaying... Does anyone else feel an untested Yu Darvish is being drastically over paid? Pitchers coming from Japan where the hitters aren't as strong have a track record for disappointment.... Case in point my Bo-sox getting Daiske

Inconsistent? How? He posted back to back 5+ WAR seasons. Had a freak injury last year that needed abdominal surgery. Was injured or out for the first half. When he came back he hit .306/.361/.460

Very much so. I like Zimmerman, but there are very few players I $17M like.

Darvish should be much better than Dice-K in the MLB. It isn't fair to Darvish to compare him to Matsuzaka. Darvish was superior to Matsuzaka in the NPB, he will probably be superior to him here. I don't think anyone expects Darvish to post the numbers he has in Japan, but I don't think he will be a bust either.

Don't get me wrong, he's one of my favorite 3B, but I think that he can be locked up long term for less than $17M annually.

Would you pay Pablo that money if he continues to hit like he did last year (and power should come back even more )?

Braun suspension overturned.

I wonder if it was done simply for baseball as a whole. Not because they proved it was an error or anything. So many players obviously using steroids before, one of the favorite players in current era baseball tests positive, probably won't help the sport at all.

Inconsistent was a bad word about what I meant... I was referring to the injury freak or not it drops the value of a player... He's a great hitting middle lineup type guy with good hands at third but anytime you miss half a season teams pick on it

And range. He has one of the best ranges of any third baseman ever.

The injury was a freak injury. He's a minumun 5 WAR player who competes for a gold glove every year on a team that has no stars. He's a top 3 third baseman in baseball.

I'm expecting him to blow up this year. Nationals are going to regret balking at this. They're going to have to pay more to keep him next year

Once they signed Werth or however you spell it... They screwed themselves to resign Zimmerman he's a better all around player and will expect to be paid more

Gawd .... I hate the albatross signing so much.

But they were willing to throw over a hundred million at Fielder. I gotta think that they can send some of that money towards Zimm.
