'04 Featherlite Project
Sold off the luxe and returned to AKA.
Picked up this featherlite about a week ago and it will be quickly coming together for the 2012 season as my primary gun.
What I am starting with:
'04 Featherlite
-2 liter
-RT valve
-Tadao M5
-Warped bolt pin
Never been a fan of stock viking frame at all, its always the first thing to go.
I've done ul'd, dm5 frames multiple times and a few others so this time I wanted to do something different.
I ended up picking up a Gen4 timmy frame. This is on my list of top 3 favorite frames and I am pretty sure nobody has ever put one on a viking so right away that was a plus. I intended to do this on a highlander I had about a year ago but decided it was to much work and ditched the project for a UL frame. Well I got alot of spare time at new job and they let us do whatever we want so here it goes....
Step 1, stripped frame down to make it easier to work with:
Step 2, figuring out the best way to mount it, Due to trigger guard I decided to keep stock mounting locations and ended up with this:
Step 3, tap for threads:
Step 4, new mounting system complete:
Step 5, find out frame is contour cut to bottom of gen 4 timmy:
Step 6, shave off a bunch of metal:
Step 7, cut down frame to match tray, making sure to leave sharp edge:
Step 8, cut finger on frame, making sure it goes deep enough to draw blood:
Step 9, stand back and admire work:
She goes out monday to go on DC weight loss plan.
Then she will be off to anno.

Definitely get a CCM slim macro fitting, looks like it'll be tight with the trigger guard. Looks killer though!

Yeap, thats my old highlander.
CCM fitting are already on the way.
Frame ended up taking about 4-5 hours to fully complete but it was worth it, feels great and works well.
One last before shot:
Already rebuilt regs, shot amazing yesterday.
Body was sent out today for:
-FSP cut
-Top tube cut down
-Rounded buttcrack
-Noid area milling
-Quad detents

looking nice! I personally wouldn't get the fsp cut, I would have gotten the pocket milling behind the vasa instead.

Weird, I liked the look of it on the Highlander, but not sure on this FL. Probably the longer sidewinder vs the shorter 2liter and the cut at the back of the top tube. Will look better with the custom cuts I guess.
But I do like stock frames on vikings..

I completely agree with brock, but as always, it's your gun. If you're using a timmy board you may want to consider using a thin tray. Looks like a fun project.

I have to say "boo" to the fsp cut, but otherwise, it looks great.

I'd have to agree on the boo on the FSP cut.. I much prefer the JMJ cut..
But, it doesn't look THAT bad on that body either And you cut down on the weight atleast.. Loving the "buttcrack" milling What anno-scheme will you be going for?

Looks good! I'll check back later to see how it turns out, seeing how I've always been a Viking fan.

Did you get that Timmy frame from BelowZero?
Cause I had a frame with the same trigger and the flipped logo that I sold him.

looking good so far.. as far as the people poo-pooing on the FSP cut..
then buy your own featherlight. mod a timmy frame to fit, and then pay to have it sent off for milling and anno with your own money instead of crapping all over him for what he likes ;P

Yeap, basically the only person I talk into seperating the frame from the body. That trigger is terrible though, much prefer the stock gen4, which just happen to come in the mail today also

LOL thats exactly what I was thinking, if you really have that big a problem with it start buying all the bodies you don't want to get cut. And I would of done the same to my old highlander if DC would of been taking work at the time.
She arrived back home today, weight of the body is insane now, going to easily be under 2lbs fully assembled. Pic of it roughly put together since all the parts were broke down for anodizing already:
I can't wait till I can do final assembly on this beast, totally in love with it already.
