Why are sniper barrels worse?

So everywhere I look I see that sniper barrels (18"+) are bad, or should I say they don't help. I looked all over the internet for a video that compares barrel sizes but no luck. I myself am deciding between an APEX and a 20" or so sniper barrel. So I was wondering if anyone has a video that compares gun performance based on different sized video? Also do longer barrels decrease velocity? Increase range? Increase accuracy?

Thanks
P.S A video would be awesome!

It has been scientifically proven that the optimal barrel size is somewhere in the 12-16 inch range. Longer barrels see efficiency losses, and shorter barrels see FPS inconsistencies. Just take our word for it.

A 2" longer barrels increases your range by 2".... that's it. A 300 FPS projectile will go just as far as the next, no matter the barrel. (assuming there is no spin)

Look at your comment. Back to mine. Back to yours NOW BACK TO MINE. Sadly, it isn't mine. But if you stopped trolling and started posting legitimate crap it could LOOK like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You're scrolling through the comments, finding the ones that your comment could look like. Back at mine, what is it? It's a highly effective counter-troll. Look again, MY COMMENT IS NOW DIAMONDS.

Okay Okay I gotcha. Another Q here... If I were to want to make a sniper what would be the best barrel? 14" Apex/18" Apex? Also do you know how the Salvo is with an 18" Apex b/c that's all that will fit?

Any quality aftermarket barrel will do the trick, but feeding it quality paint in a stable and consistent gun platform is most important. Most of the biggest sticklers in paintball are shooting limited paint/rof guns like pumps and high-quality pistols. I won't tell you your Tippmann can't match performance of these options, but you are likely to put a significant amount of money into them to do it, and still possibly have iffy performance.

The Apex barrel works for some, but again, quality paint is key. It puts a spin on the ball, which can easily cause it to be inconsistent, or squirrely shots. There's definitely a learning curve to using one.

I recommend the 12" Lapco Big Shot Apex. That's the barrel I have and I can accurately get hits on guys who's return shots land 20'+ in front of me. Obviously good paint will increase accuracy further, but I've shot field grade paint all the way up to tournament grade and the backspin from the Apex tip will not send balls flying wildly. What does create wild balls is the stock Apex barrel; it's not as smooth as the Lapco and will put a side or forward spin on the ball instead of only the backspin from the Apex tip.
