I know how the computer parts game goes and I've waited long enough. I'm going to micro center tmrw and I don't see myself walking out of there without a card.

Then get a 6970 if you don't want to wait.

I don't know if I'd go to Microcenter for a graphics card, they don't tend to have great deals on them.

Gotta love talking to the fired IT guy about the crappy system he set up. This idiot, who I hope is smarter than his setup alludes, decided that a 15 user system with no domain, no apparent permissions structure, no real networked printers, and the most ****ed up shared folder naming convention I have ever seen was a good idea. Seriously, the D drive is the NAS, the "ddrive" folder is on the C, but is called F, the "fdrive" folder is also on the C but it is mapped to L, and the DVD drive is R. I have read stories about IT guys that intentionally make things complicated just so it's harder to fire them. Here you go.

Back when I was consulting, I saw some pretty stupid stuff. Unsecured wi-fi at nightclubs/restaurants with the credit-card and point-of-sale machines on the same VLAN, default passwords EVERYWHERE, in some workgroup setups users had admin rights and got rid of their account passwords.

I use a Crucial M4 128gb SSD mainly for my OS. Boots to Windows fast. Most of my games are on my HDD, but I have a few on SSD and load times are faster... especially games with big maps. I'd like to get another Crucial M4 128 or 256gb for games.

Pros:
Blindingly fast loads, boots
generally awesome
most noticeable upgrade you can make if you already have a good PC

Cons:
Pricy
You have to manage space since you can't fit all your stuff on one unless you spend like $400+

60GB is alright, but space is even more of a problem. I would get a 128GB if possible. Lots of space for small programs, windows, and a bunch of games without constantly having to make room for things.

128gb is the sweet spot for most consumers' SSDs. 64gb is manageable but irritating.

Alright, I was directed here to ask my questions. I guess I've irritated my friends enough It's awkward because I definitely don't feel welcome in these parts. Anyways...I'm starting to plan a desktop. It will be my first desktop, so bear with me. Here is a screen cap of components I've started to select.

Another one I saw was this DIY combo which had similar components for a better price. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...t=Combo.770956

Anyways, my budget is around $800 for the tower only. This will be pretty much just for gaming. I play BF3, MW3, Skyrim, and other similar games. Mainly FPS games purchased through steam though.

Both builds look fine to me. The only thing that people will criticize is the Seagate HDD. I thought the green drives were slow as all hell, and Seagate doesn't exactly have the best reputation for reliability. HDD's are all ****ed up because of the flooding anyway so I don't even know a substitute for only $99. Last I saw Samsung F3's and the fast Hitachi were going for like $300, which is just way, way too high.

I can figure out an alternative. Downside to the second one is that I cannot change the components. I don't need much space right now, 500gbs will be fine for a while.
