Whatever size you want and feels comfortable for you.
Keep in mind you're more then likely going to be limited to the metal 3000 psi tanks. They're quite heavy unless you are using a remote coil and have the tank on your back.
If you even think you're going to want a 4500 psi tank, just save up for that. In the long run you'll save more money then rushing out to get a cheaper tank, possibly not liking it, then saving up for a 4500 psi tank. Which are lighter and hold one and a half times the volume of a 3000 psi system.
This is assuming you are looking at new. If you are looking for used you can find a 4500 psi system for under $100 often times, even right in your shop. I would start at least by checking your your field/shop if you have one close by and actually getting a feel and putting the tank on your marker.

Like said above weight can be an issue but so can the capability of the field you play at. I only use 3000psi tanks because the fields I play at most often either don't fill much past 3000 or have a fill station close to the fields so a 48/3000 tank is more than enough. It may not be worth it to spend 2 or 3 times as much for a 4500psi carbon fiber tank if you don't really benefit from it. Unless the weight is that much of an issue.

That is very true as well. I'm fortunate that every place I've ever been too fills to 4500 psi so I forget that some fields only fill to 3000.

I have a Ninja 62/3000 system, and as several people mentioned, it is heavy! I use only 3000s, like jweav151, because my field only fills to 3000. The Ninjas will run you about $65-75, but they won't break or be damaged easily. I would start with a 3000, as this is the most plentifully filled pressure, but if you get more into speedball or agressive scenario play, I'd go with a 4500 a little later. Look around in the B/S/T forums and you'll find a multitude of lightly used, high-quality, and in-hydro HPA tanks. Good luck and good hunting!

If you already have a tank but are looking for some adjustability, I definitely recommend the Ninja tank regulators... Take the tank and replacement reg to a paintball or SCUBA shop and usually they can install the reg for a reasonable amount. To change pressures, all you would typically need to do is remove or add shims as per the instructions.
