I think I understand what you are saying.

A few things.....

1) I assume you have the F8 gauge on the front, replacing the front cap. Is this correct?

2) Is your tank working properly? Is it putting out at a constant pressure? Do you know what the actual output pressure the tank is currently putting out? Do you have a different marker to test the tank reg on?

3) As Yeti asked, have you ever lubed it - particularly the solenoid? The bolt sticking forward is usually a sign that the solenoid is sticking open and that it needs to be serviced.

When it sticks forward now, does it leak?

It still sounds like the piston in the solenoid is sticking.

Sounds like something is catching on the ram. Have you replaced the ram orings recently? Is the spring compressed? Seated correctly?

Try swapping out the ram stem oring. What lube do you use?

ding ding yeti wins...
one of your ram o-rings is messing it up.. whether it looks it or not thats what likely is the cause..
or your noid is seizing open giving the ram that little bit of air to hold forward and stay open..
There are some very simple ways to tell if its the ram or the noid. However, things have to be done very very carefully and you will need your mask..
