Well, since you asked........
First off, the APE Gen 4 programming trumps Virtue's programming. The APE Gen4 programming is so much better than it's competitors, that it's insulting to even make a comparison between their products and APE's.
The guys at APE really think outside the box when it comes to the programming they include in their boards.
APE pioneered these exclusive features and includes them in their Gen4 programming:
- tune assist
This function quickly determines the best dwell and bolt return delay settings for optimal efficiency, so your gun can perform at its absolute best.
- hot starts
Hot starts let you modify the currently active profile without programming... It's a quick and convenient method of making a TEMPORARY operational change. Why go load a profile or reprogram your marker if all you want to do is uncap it for the max rate of fire? That's what the hot starts provide. You don't have to invoke your programming mode, you don't have to navigate into your programming menu tree and change a setpoint, and you dont have to "undo" your setpoint change to revert back.
Loading a profile with Virtue requires you to open the grip cover, flip the dip switch and close it back up, and then finally achieve your goal. That's efficient! Likewise you could perform similar gyrations to program and reprogram if you wanted to.
APE also allows you to program up a default "boot profile" from any of the 4 profiles, and only APE lets you program the profile to load when you flip your tourney switch on. Virtue just falls short when it comes to these types of configuration options.
- 4 way trigger filtering
The Gen4 trigger filtering algorithm provides 4 distinct means of setting your trigger response and sensitivity.
1. The Leading edge debounce filters the trigger on the pull stroke.
2. The Trailing edge debounce filters the trigger on the release stroke.
3. The Filter control lets you activate or deactivate an additional filter timer. There are 2 distinct activation points to initiate the timer... at noid activation time, or at noid deactivation time. Depending on the dynamics of the mechanical recoil you're filtering, you can zero in on the problematic part of the bolt cycle and not just preempt everything.
4. The Filter timer control determines how long the filtering is active, providing as much or as little filtering as needed to acheive the desired trigger performance you're after.
Pro's that have used the Gen 4 fitering algorithm have said that it provided the fastest semi operation they've ever experienced, and they've shot ALL the aftermarker boards.
- "rule proof" tournament mode control
This is not about your rate of fire... it's about HOW YOU FIRE. Case in point, in 2009 the Millennium series added the requirement for 3 safety shots before ramping was allowed. Now, how could you comply without reflashing your board? You'd need a board with a boot loader or download capability.
APE took a different approach and provides 3 distinct tournament modes that can be set to comply with any future rule changes... it's an extension of their Ramping Control.
Let's say that a certain tournament series decides to change from 3 semi shots to 5 semi shots before ramping, then requires a 5 pull per second rate, and then only allows 2 balls per pull? You'd need a reflash or new firmware from a boot load or download unless you have the APE board. If you have the APE board, you only have to reprogram a few setpoints and you're compliant with the new rules.
With APE's rule proof tournament modes, your board/gun combo will never become obsolete due to rule changes.
- advanced ramping control
The APE ramping control is the most advanced ramp algorithm out there right now.
- You can program mandatory semi shots (or none)
- You can program rate based ramping, shot count ramping, or both
- You can program what mode you ramp "to", including burst, reactive, full-auto, or percent
- You can program burst and reactive rates OR your percentage ramp value
- You can sustain ramping by timing controls OR deactivate ramping by dropping your trigger rate.
Virtue ramp controls don't come anywhere close to this capability.
These are groundbreaking features pioneered by APE, and are just a few examples of just how phenomenal the APE Gen4 programming is.
The more you learn about the features included in APE's Gen4 programming, the more you'll learn just how incredible and revolutionary the Gen4 programming really is.
For example.......get a Bob Long marker, and put your finger in the breech while the marker is on (without air) and pull the trigger. The marker will only fire 10 balls per second, no matter what your settings are on. That's the way Tadao eye functioning is.....if there is a blockage or eye malfunction, it defaults to 10 bps. I hate that. If you change your bps settings in the hotel room the night before the event, you can't put your finger in the breech, pull the trigger, and listen to the solenoid click to see if you switched from 20 bps to the 12.5 required for the event, because it will automatically default to 10 bps.
APE lets you decide how your eyes will function.
Eye Mode - APE programming has 4 eye control modes:
− IFLT (iFault): While your eyes are functioning, your marker will fire at the BPS Eyes On rate. If your marker’s eyes become disabled, iFault™ will automatically switch to the BPS Eyes OFF rate the user has selected. If your eye functionality returns, iFault™ will automatically resume firing at the BPS Eyes On rate.
− STD (Standard): While your eyes are functioning, your marker will fire at the BPS Eyes ON rate. If your eyes stop working, your marker will stop firing until you manually bypass the eye operation.
− OFF: All eye functions are disabled, and the marker operates at the BPS Eyes OFF rate of fire.
− DEMO: This allows you to fire you marker at the BPS Eyes On rate while all eye processing is bypassed. This is a dry fire mode only.
Eye Process: APE's programming can process your marker Eye input in two ways:
− Standard processing (STD): checks for a “ball in breech” status after each trigger pull before firing the marker. This process is slightly slower since it forces the board to wait for the breech delay time foreach bolt cycle.
− Advanced processing (ADV): looks for a “ball in breech” status immediately after the bolt cycle is complete. Once this condition is met, the marker is allowed to fire again immediately if required (the ball in breech status is “queued”).
Breakout mode : You can set your marker for 12.5 in PSP3, select the breakout mode, and set your marker to go fully automatic at 12.5 bps on the first trigger pull, so off the break, you can go fully automatic, and act like your walking the trigger. The marker will fire fully auto at 12.5 bps (or whatever you set it at) until you let off the trigger, and then it'll revert back to PSP3 at 12.5 bps, so if a ref checks your marker, it'll be PSP3 at 12.5. It's pretty slick.
