In your opinion, what are the top three essential albums of the genre? I'm trying to see if it's just me finding bad examples or if I don't like most modern metalcore.

i sat here for about 5 minutes thinking if i could give a good answer to this question, and i dont think i can because there are just to many albums that i love and thought brought a great twist to the genre, however i will tell you this; the album/artist that pulled me out of mainstream metal and into this branch of the genre was the oncoming storm by unearth, but if i could say personally which band has the most impact on this community it would without question, in my mind, be killswitch engage.

about a month after listening to that unearth album i saw them with a life once lost, and loved them, after that i started listening to other bands, god forbid, the dillinger escape plan, psyopus, and then it just spread and spread, like i have said i am still a fan of all things metal, i just like this branch more than any of the others.

^ hands down my favorite metalcore band. Everything else I have listened to pales in comparison.

Breakdowns are ****ing stupid though.

I don't think I was born to like modern metalcore. The vocals, the pseudo-technical guiyar work, just not my style.

It's not for everyone.

I have heard The Agonist described as metalcore, and I love them too.

asking that is like asking,'hey you like music so what are the 3 most influential songs ever, oh you say there are to many to name, you must not really like music''

now before i answer the second part of your question im going to say, this, do you think i am a liar, or a poser or something??? i am a 25 year old grown *** man, i have no reason to lie, nor do i REALLY care what you think about me, however just to keep this thread alive and push out trolls like you my answer will be this:

i do like all kinds of metal, what sort of metal do i like? well all of it, this 'horrible pop stuff' just happens to be my favorite, but from a chronological standpoint i will say i started listening to korn as my first metal band, i realize they very heavily fall into the numetal category, but we all had to start somewhere, after that i had a flood of numetal bands and then in high school is really when is tarted listening to others, i remember the first cd i bought that broke down the numetal wall for me was dimmu borgirs alive in torment, i got into them big time and branched out to other bands in their genre, shortly after that is when i started listening to 'this horrible pop stuff' but that also included tons of bands that were never on my list. As i entered the military i spread my interests into old school stuff, dio, iron maiden, pantera etc. and just in the past few years ive started listening to a lot of the Norwegian black metal, and became a fan of bands like emperor, satirycon, gorgoroth, immortal, mayhem, and Marduk. now don't be fooled i listen to far more than that, i have well over a TB full of just music. and set aside metal, there are a lot of bands that i really dig that don't even fall into that category.

now since i answered your question Im going to tell you that i have a suspicion that you are a certain person who was banned due to behavior found earlier in this thread, so this will be my final warning if you pick that stuff up again you will be reported, IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE THREAD.... DO NOT POST HERE.

Does anyone else think that you could very easily trick a person who likes this stuff into thinking that they're listening to a new band but really its just 15 songs from 15 different bands that have no variation between them? Seriously, it sounds like they were all created by a Lou Pearlman esque dude who decided he could make his living by making generic music in a factory and marketing it to 14 year old girls.
