just buy one, i picked one up new for 10 bucks, or use a hockey one.. i used it for awhile but don't anymore, gets too warm too quick..

Like everyone stated bandanas are pretty useful, but will only protect one side of your neck fully.

Shemaghs are the way to go, but once the heat comes in they get a bit hot.

As stated above you could get an in padded version for cheap from walmart/sporting good stores.
