Canadian Hydro test regulations

Hey guys,

My team is planning on playing the NPPL event that will be up in Canada in July and we were all wondering what the hydro test regulations are for compressed air tanks in Canada? We have heard rumors that they have different testing methods than we do here in the US and if that's the case we are going to have to get the tanks tested somewhere in Canada but I have been unable to find any sort of information on this to prove whether it's true or not. Could someone please fill me in on what we will need to do to be able to bring our compressed air tanks with us on our trip to the Great North.

Thanks,
Daniel

As long as your tank is in current hydro and has a TC stamp on it you will be fine.

TC stands for Transport Canada which is the autority that covers compressed tanks in Canada.

it is the equivelent to the DOT stamp (Department of Transport) that is the authority in the US.

Check your tanks. the TC stamp should be right beside/under/ontop of the DOT stamp.

If you don't have one...it may be easier/cheaper/faster to borrow/rent one when you get here?

So if we have a Current DOT Hydro and the Tank originally had the TC stamp we are fine?

What I am being told is the DOT Re-hydro process does not re-certify the TC stamp so we will have to either buy new tanks, or get ours Hydroed in Canada. Is that correct?

Thats a good question...

I did this in reverse...my Canadian hydroed tank with a DOT stamp was good to go in the US.

I will ask my local shop and see if they have an answer for you.

OK, so this is what I have found.

Quote:
Hydro is the same for ctc/dot/icc/tc . if it's a tank from the USA a properly trained operator at canadian fill stations will reject it if it was made prior to 1994. if you are buying it used, be safe and have it hydro'd at superior in nepean and there's another place in town as well. as a PSI inspector i would treat all paintball tanks like SCBA or scuba tanks.
Therefore as far as I can tell...If you have a current DOT or TC hydro and your tank has BOTH stamps and it was made AFTER 1994...you should be good to go in both Canada and the US.

Hope that helps.
