Prilosec/PPI's and weight gain

Has anyone else gained any weight while on a proton-pump inhibitor such as prilosec, prevacid, or nexium? I have been on them since 2006 and have gained weight every year since. This of course encompassed college and lots of drinking so I am not excusing myself, but am just curious if I am the only one.

One of these things had more effect on your weight gain than the other.

To clarify, when I gained the most weight I was eating clean, lifting, running, and not drinking much at all, a beer or two a week. My point to that was at some point I was not helping matters but most of the weight gain occurred with a healthy diet.

Appears to be food choice mediated, no biochemical. A ****load of people get fat in college due to metabolic slowing, regardless of PPI status

Correct, but when I was able to cycle off (1 pill every other day or every 2 days) for a period of 2-3 weeks I was able lose an appropriate amount of weight for the time period. Point is it seems like since I have been on the pills I have gained weight non-stop, regardless of my diet, exercise, sleep, etc. Even on a CKD diet, using test strips to confirm, I was unable to drop any considerable amount of weight.

It's possible, I suppose, given individual variations in biochemistry. Is it possible to stop entirely?

I have found a way to get off of the pills that I have been on since late 2005. Apple cider vinegar has done the trick. I tried it on suggestion from a friend. So far I am 6 days and 5 nights without the pills. Last night, on a reduced amount of vinegar during the day, I didn't even need Tums. I was previously taking the Prevacid and stil requiring Tums. The first 4 nights were easy though I did need Tums. I know a few others who have been on the pills and have shown weight gains without a change in diet, exercise, or major life situations. I was hoping to see if there were others aside from internet strangers on advertorial websites.

Update, off the pills for 7 days now and I lost 3 pounds with no change to my diet, exercise, or sleep in the past 4 months. I have been at a consistent weight until now.

Off the pills 14 days and down 8 lbs. Zero change in diet, exercise, sleep, stress, and all the other bull****.

So why do you theorize the first week was 3 pounds and the next week, with the exact same diet and everything, yielded 5?

Either way, 8lbs in 2 weeks is not considered to be "good" or "healthy" by any means. You should probably be eating more.

I agree that I likely should be eating more but I need to figure out everything and build it up from there. As for why 3 then 5, who the **** knows.

Weight loss fizzled a bit, down to a more normal 1-2# a week, which is fine. I now feel in control as dieting and exercise will dictate my weight loss where it was not before.
