Yes. That was the first thing I thought of when the video started. There's just way too many variables with doing something in this manner. It's an awesome idea and I still get a good idea of how each marker sounds. It's just not the way that I would imagine comparing sound signatures.
Hypothetical experiment - have all of your markers that you are going to use. Have a stand where you set the market for firing every time and have the barrel end at marked spot. You then set up your microphone at a fixed location and that's another constant. You then use the same barrel for all markers just as another constant. Have all the markers shoot at a set capped speed as well. Maybe add a decibel meter, too.
Now some issues that would arise would be the actual paint consistency, which would affect the velocity and if you were picky that could affect results. And the second issue would be the perceived sound depending on the type of marker. If you had a spool valve marker, the sound signature from the rear of the marker would be different from the front since it is enclosed, while a stacked tube market like an Ego could be louder from the rear compared to the spool valve due to the open top tube and rammer slot in the bottom tube.
I know there are a million things that you could do, I just winged it and threw something out there.
