Electro Woodsball

Is there any reason not to play Woodsball with an electro marker?

I use my etek2 and epiphany in the woods sometimes, but more often then not my trilogy pump or my autococker. Its not that electric guns aren't good in the woods, I just find it more challenging and fun to not be shooting the latest and greatest.

1. If it's raining really really hard
2. If you plan on diving in the 5' deep creek in the middle of the field
3. If there just happens to be a swimming pool in the middle of the field and you want to swim with your marker

Those are the only reasons I can think to not play with an electro in the woods.

Seeing that your average battery is good for 20,000 shots, you shouldn't be worried unless you plan on shooting more than 10 cases in one outing or you're taking your marker for a swim.

I don't think anyone thought of the possibility of having giant electro magnets hanging in all of the obstacles.

In which case, your board and solenoid will get funky.

That happened to me once

I've played in the rain no problem, well no problem with the marker. The balls flew all crazy though...

I like to play with both,it just depends on the comp that day or the way i feel that day. It also depends on style of play, if you play more aggressive ive found the bps an electro has vs most mechs out there comes in real handy. But i also do love playing with my mags, mech autocockers and pump markers just as much. Both are well suited for most any enviroment found in paintball, with one of the only drawbacks of electros being moisture. As for the mechs they can be run on c02 or hp and do not need a super fast loader to feed them for the most part, so a plain old gravity loader will work just fine.Mechs can also deal better with dirty and wet muddy conditions for the most part.

Woods field don't have very clear lanes of fire. I like limited paint and low ROF as much as the next guy, but there is no denying that 30 bps is more effective than 5 bps when trying to hose somebody through light brush. Sure some people are better at threading shots through brush than others because of skill, but there is an element of luck and it's a lot easier when you can have 30 tries in a second rather than a few.

I think on speedball courses your statement is more appropriate.

this is true. it was obnoxious playing in the thick, viny, forest section of my local field using a stock class marker. on the speedball course or the man made woods field is where i excelled with the stock class marker. otherwise it was too easy for rambo with his A-5 to sit in the bush and mow people down. i didn't like that style of play, so i tended to stick to the clear areas when i played on our local woods field.

about the only example i can think of i was glad i had a mech compared to an electro in woodsball was the time i jumped into a waist height puddle (half our field floods every winter and spring). the reason for doing that was nobody was man enough to even step in a puddle that went past their shoe/boot sole. i caught everyone off guard and shot 3 people and surrendered the rest.

although i suppose on a speedball field a player could just as simply dive wrong into some standing water that's just deep enough to do some damage to an electro. although our speedball field had drainage, so it was never an issue.

"accuracy by volume"

shooting through brush is a pain though, but a normal rof like 12bps is more than sufficient though.

ive seen some rec player empty 5 pods on me with an old dm...the entire time he never moved up or anything, just shot at me from behind his tree while i waited behind a crate, he eventually ran out of paint, i popped up and let off a short string and got him....now stuff like that is pointless.

depends on your level of play too. in airball, I lane my opponents so they stay behind their bunker, or can't get to the bunker in the first place. the initial string of 100 paintballs could make a 5v5 match a 2 or 3v5 (unlikely, but 4v5 is better than 5v5) also, I can't paint the bunkers whatever color I like faster ;D

i dont do woodsball much but when i do theres almost no point of shooting fast like you would for speedball. i would put a couple pods on guys in a bunker and the braches would destroy the balls, if you play with speedball gun just pick your shots.

I actually prefer to use an electro because you can shoot down a person easier with more shots.

I just prefer using an electro since they're naturally quieter.

Since when is a poppet quieter then a woodsball gun? But the only problem I've seen (and I guess it could happen in speedball) is having an open bolt and sliding into dirt or something and you have to take the bolt out and clean it (but not a huge problem)

Have you EVER heard the sound of an A-5. Sounds like 2 squirrels smacking into each other cause they don't know how to have sex. -HAP HAP HAP HAP-

That gun echos in my ears way to hard.

My G6R= stupidly quiet.

Common misconception, have you ever seen a tournament in the heavy rain? As of late electronic guns can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbamYhclsUA

Poppets are definitely quieter than most tippmann like guns, though they are still loud.
Oh and on the topic of open bolt you should read about what being open bolt vs closed bolt is
"Most modern markers have an open bolt design. When the marker is at rest, the bolt is in the "back" position, and the firing chamber is exposed to the stack of paintballs being fed by the loader. Some markers have closed bolt designs; in the rest position, the bolt, and paintball to be fired, are forward and the feed stack is closed off from the chamber. Closed bolt markers were thought to be more accurate because there is no reciprocating mass when the marker is fired. However, tests have shown that the position of the bolt has little effect on a marker’s accuracy."
