Despite all the bad press it got I was interested but I never once saw it around here in the North East. Not one field I went to tried it nor did any local store that I know of brought it in. So for me it was just something I read about. I'm a pump player and don't really use much paint anyway so it's a moot point for me. I would have liked to try it to form my own opinion. The company's pushing it should have come out to the fields with guns to try. That may have helped their cause. But the lack of promotion killed it in my book. .50 may have had the chance to be the ultimate outlaw ball. But we will never know. Feyd.................

I actually went to a field where they organized groups based on skill level and there was a beginner level where everyone used .50 cal.

i dont think its irrlevant but its going down quick. What it would take to save 50 cal or make it start to get popular is if dye, pe, and all the other major companies started making guns designed for maximum 50 cal performance.

I have tried 50 cal, put it in a sl8r, 08 ego and even in an egox and played against players that are d2-d4 in xball and the fact remains your not on a level playing field unless everyone is using it. You will never be able to force all the players to change so whats the point now? its just done, is it cool? yeah. i think if your playing with friends in your back yard its worth your time and money to save some $ but if your a serious tourney baller playing in PSP or NCPA dont waste your time or money

I dont think its dead but it will be completely irrelevant in about 4 months.

I would have liked to of tried it, but could never bring myself to spend any money on it. Now it looks like it's dead, but the question remains, If I was to try it, would fresh paint be available, and #2, If I was to buy equipment, how much longer will paint be made for it.

.50 Paint has been made for years, just wouldn't call it the best possible product out there. Seems there is an international following (due to various country restrictions on paintball), so you could probably order online without much difficulty to get fresh stuff.

Otherwise, I think the general lack of activity on this forum is more than enough indication how relevant ".50" is to current paintball.

It may not be the future of ALL paintball(unless laws change on a global scale) but it always will be relevant.

Hi everyone. It's Mike from Paintballusa. We are taking the .50 cal. to the top of the hill. Last week we had 1,000 players at our 2 parks in Cali and we had beginner games where 400 players use the .50 cal guns. We do this every week. You old timers like me will always stay with the .68, but the new blood is using the .50 cal.
We are also using .43 cal powder balls in law enforcement training.(see our web site paintballusa.org for class dates). We will be offering the classes to civilians in the near future.

Ok, is .62 cal relevant? It was fairly popular back in the day.

How about .55 cal? Had the same "newbie friendly" marketing that .50 cal is trying.

How about .40 cal? Millions of cheap blowguns can't be wrong.

The question that many of us have been pondering since the beginning of this whole experiment, what's different this time?

Yes .50 cals are revelant because they are in popular demand from parents that want their 10 yr. old first time player and their friends to have a fun and safe birthday party. Since the soft gel .50 cal paintball is smaller, there is less impact. This type of thing can make a big difference in the sport of paintball and it's popularity in the world of young children. Happy Birthday parties keep them safe and coming back for more.

see i just dont think its totally dead i just think that there is a future in it for tourneys, im seeing at best paintball fields putting some first timers out there and let them play, but if you make them play woodsball which often is what fields do the ball doesnt travel far enough to do anything.....so rather the players resent u later for screwing them once they shoot a real gun, or elmimate the problem

Unless fields supply or allow more byop it wont take off i think. I really want to 50 cal but closest byop is 90 mins ago while i can travel 20 mins to a field for 68 cal.

For trolling in woodsball, it's crazy-fun! Putting down a lane through a really narrow opening is always entertaining. Also, I don't mind getting over-shot as much. One other quick benefit; I can walk on the field with well over 2000 rounds and still feel somewhat mobile. Sure, it'll take more shots to hit my mark and make sure they know it, but I feel like carrying capacity makes up for it.

I can't however really see it fitting into the speedball scene at all, and my local fields don't carry 50 so I can only order it for special occasions. Every case I've gotten has been REALLY GOOD paint, even if it's been marked as a lower-grade. Sure I get the occasional bounce or two, but by the time they notice the bounces, there's already a stream of more paint in the air that'll all break.

For everyone wondering if 50 cal paint will be around if they buy 50 cal equipment, the answer is yes. Nelson has been making 50 cal since the '80s.

As for the relevance of the caliber, I don't see it becoming as influencial as Italia was making it out to be. It may work for niche markets, like the Chinese, the newbie players, etc., but it won't take over like he said it would.
