Beats in ear opinion?

Okay so I'm gonna have some christmas money and I was looking at maybe getting the in ear beats, but I'm iffy about it since they cost so much. Are they really that amazing quality wise? I know people keep saying they have good bass, but do they produce a rich sound? I don't care that they're made by monster or branded by Dr. Dre. I want to know how good they are music quality wise. So what's people's opinion on them?

If you want quality sound, don't get earbuds.

If you want quality headphones, there are better things for the money than beats by Dre.

Are you absolutely set on getting earbuds?

Well sorta. I usually use a pair of Turtle beach x1s for home uses. These would probably be for just general use. I'm not really knowledgeable on headphone so I'm not very sure what would be good for general uses headphones that still had good quality.

This is the main selling point of Beats headphones. Anyone who's actually tested more than Skullcandy and Beats will tell you that you can do much better than Beats for the money.

If you want a decent price headphone with great sound, then look up the grado sr80i. They are half the price of dr.dre beats and they blow them out of the water in sound wise. Skullcandies and Dr. Dre headphones are mostly waste of money because you can get far better headphones for cheaper.

EDIT: oops, if you're looking for earbuds these are really good, probably not great for running, I've owned a similar pair of Sennheisers and I don't think I'd want to run with the cord style.

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-MK-...98754&sr =1-1

If you want other high end, look at Klipsch, Ultimate Ears imo. I have owned the Ultimate Ears Triple-fi 10 when they were $95. They sound absolutely fantastic but I hated the fit, they go over the ear. So I sold mine.

Otherwise, full over the ear headphones are best for sound quality, but for many of these you can't really use them in a library or wouldn't want to carry them around.
Other good brands as well off the top of my head.

Beyerdynamic
AKG
Audio Technica(own ATH-A700's, very good)
Grado
Some Sony monitors
etc?

What's your budget? There are good headphones from around $50 on up. I'd suggest a cheaper set as your first set.

Also, there are open and closed type over the ear headphones. Closed keeps in MOST of the sound, which isn't necessarily bad imo and actually makes the bass seem a tad stronger to me. Open headphones are thought of as the best method, something to do with the sound waves being able to escape makes it sound better, honestly I'm not knowledgeable enough to describe that well.

Here are two from Sennheiser that are good. The HD 598's are more classy looking then the beats imo, but you don't want to use those at the library or anywhere public unless everyone around you loves the Spice Girls.

Both are probably better than the Beats I have tried. But maybe they have improved, even if that is so Monster Beats are not anywhere near worth what they ask for them.

As do I.

Make sure you get the right ones for your phone if you are getting the ones with a remote. I got these for travel for use with my iPhone. Pretty good sound for the $100.

You guys have obviously never used the QuietComfort 15's. As far as noise-cancelling headphones go, those are about as good as it gets.

I wouldn't suggest noise canceling headphones unless you fly all the time.

IDK once you get them you really notice how much noise there is around you even just sitting around at home. The absolute dead silence is almost eery but really nice for music.

# They may introduce additional noise, usually in the form of high-frequency hiss.

# The noise-cancelling circuitry required for them to operate inherently reduces audio quality.

# Early models were generally bulkier than traditional headphones. However, newer models tend to incorporate the batteries in pre-existing space. While this usually reduces the bulk, it does not reduce the extra weight of noise-cancelling headphones compared to traditional headphones.

My room is quiet enough for regular headphones.

I bought a pair of Earsonics SM3v2 IEMs after my first pair (the v1 version) fell apart. I like the sound of the v1s so much I rolled the dice on the build quality of the second version. They sound great. After owning multiple pairs of Shure IEMs (E2C, E500, and E530) and auditioning various others, I have to say the SM3s are my favorite. The SM3s sound great with a wide variety of music and they're not so analytical they get fatiguing to listen to. They also isolate quite well for traveling. You /CAN/ actually get good sound from IEMs.. I prefer the sound signature of the SM3s over full-size headphones like Sennheiser HD650s.

The only really "bad thing" about IEMs is that most of the good ones are very revealing of your source material and device.

This is a great reference thread for jumping into an IEM unheard. It'll at least give you a bit of an idea of what to expect.

Noise canceling headphones are only good at canceling out very specific and constant sounds like airplane engine whine.

Noise isolating headphones do a much better job at blocking outside noise without compromising sound quality.
