NPPL has announced that they will include the Race to Format next near... Race to 7-man for Pro and D1, and Race to 5-man for the lower divisions. They will still include 7-man single point for the lower divisions, but I see this as the death of the single point format (which I don't mind).

I have not kept up on the politics of paintball, does this hint at an upcoming merger of NPPL and PSP?

NPPL, announces both 7 Man & X Ball divisional play for 2012

The NPPL is proud to give 2012 tournament teams a choice by offering both the Traditional 7 man Capture the Flag format and the Millennium Series format which includes Race to 5, Race to 4 and Race to 2. The following 8 divisions will be offered by NPPL for the 2012 season.


The NPPL Professional and Semi Pro 7 Man Divisions:

Professional - 7 man race to 5 Format.

Semi Pro/ D1 - 7 man race to 4 Format.

The NPPL 7 Man Divisions:

D2 - 7 man Capture Flag Traditional

D3 - 7 man Capture Flag Traditional
D4 - 7 man Capture Flag Traditional

NPPL race to 5-Man Divisions:

D2 - 5 man race to 4 (Millennium)

D3 - 5 man race to 4 (Millennium)

D4 - 5 man race to 2 (Millennium)



The only changes to the Millennium format rules will be no coaching or ramping. Instead the Rate of Fire (ROF) will be Semi Automatic 15 Balls Per Second (BPS)


The NPPL rules and format committee will be announcing more details on both formats including: event prize packages, series prizes for each division, entry fees, feeder series information and details on divisional team relegation and promotion. A merger was in talks near the end of this season at and it fell through. Possibly next year, we'll see how this upcoming season does.

Just looked at Millennium M7 rules (based on 5 man): Game time: 1 period of 10 minutes (CPL: 1 period of 15 minutes)

My big question is, who is making the investment on the infrastructure necessary to support all of these divisions? Are we going to see it reflected in the entry fees?

Will the NPPL consider the APPA now?

right lol. ramping allowed or not allowed i dont care, but i hate sideline coaching with a passion so its nice to see race to formats with it removed completely. though i am still a bigger fan of 7man format.

I guess we know what the sticking point for the merger was now. NPPL was willing to go to race to format but didn't want to give up the number of players or ramping/coaching.

They probably would have been better of just have all the divisions go to race-to 7man instead of just the top 2.

5man millenium sounds pretty fun on a 7man field though. 6 huge bunkers would make for some pretty wicked breakouts. My .02

My guess is that something like this is the future goal. Remember how 10 man slowly was phased out by Xball? As they see more teams playing Race to under their umbrella, they might slowly phase out the traditional 7 man format for the race to 7 man format.
