Any suggestions in a camera and lens?
I'm a rider myself, and a photographer as well. It all depends on how close you can be. If you can get right next to the track, like within 10ft, the 18-55 kit lens will do just fine. If you have to stand further away than that you'll want something that has a focal length of at least 70mm.

Pretty much every local track I'm able to get within 10ft of, meaning the kit can cut it. But, when I shot at the High Point National I needed to use my 70-300. It won't hurt you to have a telephoto lens.

T3 is a perfectly fine camera. To be honest with you, at that pricepoint there is not alot of variation between the cameras on the market. There are slight differences in features but you are going to be fine with any of them. Considering you are just starting out, its going to take you a while to get to a point that you are being limited by that body, and by that point you will know what features are most important to you in a body. I used a 20d for years until I decided what was most important to me in a body and after I had a good set of lenses in my bag.

tbh, don't ignore used either. You can find 30D and 40D bodies for a song, and they're great starter cameras, with much, much better controls than the Rebel line.

If you could spend a little more than 5 bills, look on ebay at getting a 1d mark ii, great camera older but still well used by photographers. one on there for 599+12 shipping and a 6 month warranty.

I personally wouldn't recommend a 1D to a DSLR beginner. It's a lot of camera and can be a handful if you're not somewhat established in what you're doing. Just my opinion though...

Yeah for a beginner i'd say a modern entry level camera is better than an oldschool pro level camera.

Prices?

i was just wondering for you traveling photographers how do you decide your pricing? ive been shooting more local so money hasn't really been a problem, but about a month ago i picked up a client(which is a group that has multiple teams) and right now im shooting there practices which is no problem, but 2012 between there 5 or so teams they will be traveling to different tournaments and i was just trying to figure out what my prices should be. for traveling to tournaments in general, how do you set your prices? If you want you can message me to go more in depth thanks.

A 50 prime is a great low-light and portrait lens, it's not 'better' per say but rather different. It's not going to be as universal but will produce better pictures.

She will be very happy with this lens, or you could get this one as it's considered one of the best valued nikon lenses right now:

If your sister shoots inside a lot, this would be better. If not, try the first one mentioned.

What is a good cheaper flash for my 1d mark ii? ive never really used flashes seeing thats ive always shot paintball and never did studio work or anything that i really needed them for. i recently switched from nikon and had a built in flash for what ive shot that was all i need and i never really used it any. so whats a good cheaper flash i could pick up and how would i set it up to my 1d?

Note that it will be rarely used at the moment until i start doing other work. so i dont need something really amazing just something good.

Aight so I'm looking to do a little video at my field... I have a 70-200 f4l non is which I use for pictures, and I got a 24-105.... Would it be ok to take thr 24-105 onto the field? I feel fine taking the 70-200 on the field, just don't know about the 24-105 because the front element is bigger...
