if world pvp still existed it would matter but nowadays I agree with you. (in regards to lower level characters ganging up on a max level)

Blizzard pointed out the real problem with numbers scaling that high, and its with dmg meters. If youve done ultraxion you probably noticed some lag when using recount or skada on that fight. Its mostly caused by the massive amount of healing towards the end.
