Is the air routed through the solenoid coming directly from the inline reg? There appears to be no other regulator (LPR) to step down the pressure further. If this is the case then it would be a plus to me because it would just be one less part to maintain.

Has Planet Eclipse thought of going even further and replacing the solenoid and other electronics with a simple pneumatic switch valve?

You could have a walkable mechanical marker for an even lower cost. The two-stage bolt and rubber tip would help alleviate any chopping due to the loss of the breach sensor. Could be a true entry level gun.

Who said anything about the tourney scene? Entry level meaning something you could sell en masse for rentals and what not. A less than $200 marker.

planet eclipse products will always be a step up from the competitor.

the beginner market doesnt know what a spool valve gun is or even what PE's reputation is. all they want is a paintball gun at a good cheap price, sub 200. Minus the electronics, the etha is just another paintball gun in their eyes. true beginners dont know/care for soft tip bolts, pops asa, etc...

with the board, eyes, and modes, the etha is a step up from e spyders and tippmans. noobs see electros are better than mechanical and want it no matter how good a mechanical can be. a good example is trying convincing a noob back in 2006 that an x mag is better than an ion. you're not gonna get him to buy the xmag even if it's the same price as the ion.
