pressure controlled poppet... it has a poppet valve that is opened and closed using air pressure from what i could tell in the picture. The axe/mini is also a pressure controlled poppet but it is done in a much different way.

So this should be expected to get better efficiency numbers than compared to a geo/geo2?

It sounds like it's getting pretty good efficiency from the reviewers.

pressure controlled poppet.. inline poppets dont use air to open and close the valves, they use air to move a striker/ram or ram-like part to open and close a valve. where as the etha simply uses air pressure to open and close the poppet valve

"These markers use a pressurized valve plunger to release air in the same way as mechanical markers, however in this case the valve is opened using air pressure instead of mechanical force." - definition of a pressure controlled poppet.... which is what the etha is/does

Modern version of the Emag. Also a FASOR pretty much describes it. I think the technical name is a pull poppet spool.

There's no face seal, thus it is NOT a poppet. Granted the operation is somewhat similar but the definining characteristic of a poppet is utilizing a face-type seal, like the cupseal in an Etek/Ego. Since this uses all o-rings (or "axial seals"), it's still a spool even if some design characteristics are similar to some inline or pressure controlled poppet systems.

Agree'd that its technically a spool (because of the axial seals). I think, however, because of how past spool valve paintball guns functioned, it would be a better description of how the Etha operates by calling it the "pull poppet" name that Planet Eclipse has given it. I mean, if you want to get technically anal, yes it's a spool, but if you want to describe to someone how the gun actually operates, pull poppet would be better.

In the end it's all semantics.

Personally, I love the design. I will buy this marker because of the simplicity and elegance of the engine design.
