Wondering about the Future.....

Listening to Dave Youngblood and Matty Marshall during the PSP Finals one was left to feel that the PSP, NPPL merger was a done deal.

Without getting into specifics am I the only one wondering if HB and Las Vegas will be venues next year?

HB is arguably the biggest in terms of non-paintball player audience draw.
But I wonder if the city of HB is up hosting 200 teams and would the turf on sand hold up to the rigors of that many teams.
Will they allow a tourney to start on a Thur. or let them put up more fields like they had in the past?

nppl used to have over 200 teams 5-10 years ago in hb so im sure they can handle that amount of people. and for the record 7 man isnt going anywhere.

They are going to announce more tomorrow at the NPPL captains meeting. We will not know more until then.

Is it so odd that I can like the people and not the activity?

Besides, I'm just setting up camp while I await Meathammers scores. I don't want to watch them play (because I don't have any trouble taking naps), but I do want to know if my friends are having fun.

setting up camp? uh it's a forum bro. you dont have to "camp out" for a spot. and if youre so supportive of your friends why are you in this thread but you have yet to say one word in the meathammers support thread?

just save face and leave.

Ladies ladies .....cant we all just get along? NPPL and PSP will combine in the near future. If its this next season cool wounder what format they will use. If not maybe the season after but it will happen again. History has a habit of repeating and well they were one of the same back then. Talks started to do it again so it will happen when... I dont know but we will find out soon after vegas

I am hopeful that we have only 1 league next year. It's stupid that Minions and I should be arguing when we should be working together to make fun of those stupid scenario nerds.

The NPPL site has a banner for the 2012 HB Super 7 Event - March 31 - April 1. So, unless something changes it looks like NPPL is planning on having a season on its own in 2012.

Not to start a fight but that's a 50% drop in teams participating.
I also remember just a few years ago they had 5 fields at HB and at the last Commanders Cup even more.
Now HB has 3 a 40% drop and just over 100 teams after adding divisions and dropping team size to 5 in some of the lower divisions.
Las Vegas has 3 fields this year.

For contrast PSP has 200+ teams and more than 5 fields at almost every event now.
Assuming the same drop that would mean they had 400+ teams back in the day? (only recently got interested in PSP so I have no idea of their past)

Personally I prefer "Race to..." format, seems to reward risk, limit the temptation to cheat and with crowd participation it is much more exciting.
7 man is format that pushes caution as the prelims progress as no one wants to drop points that might keep them out of the semis.
During finals when it's essentially "Race to 2" the game changes and becomes much more exciting.

I agree that we all need to work together to keep Paintball thriving.

i wasnt arguing attendance of psp vs. nppl. you asked if the nppl could handle those large numbers. I was merely saying they had huge numbers back in the day and handled them fine.

As far as the attendance thing: If you read Lane's post at the beginning of the year (which everyone seems to always forget) he stated that psp has been on a decline for the last 5 years. I know that the NPPL doesnt seem huge now, but they have grown a ton since just 2009. I believe there is a 40% rise of teams just this year in vegas alone.

My opinion on why NPPL has less teams than PSP in this present date (and this is just my opinion) is right before 2009 season the nppl went bankrupt. people panicked and jumped ship to the psp. nobody kept their faith in the nppl and it showed in participation. Today nppl is growing bigger every event and slowly creeping their way back to the top.

As I said the NPPL is not going anywhere and once people see what is in store for next year I think a lot of people will be switching to 7 man. But, we will see.
