I have quite a few questions for the crew.

How do your players manage to get time off for paintball ,assuming you already have a practice/travel schedule similar as a pro team?

What do you expect going into your first pro event?

What team based out of New England do you see (excluding the Hurricanes)
making the jump to pro also?

And were did you buy that Mario hat?

Good questions. I'm particularly interested in hearing about your expectations of your first pro event, too.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll see more pro teams coming to Upton to grind it out with us next year. We're the new guys on the block and if we want to practice against the seasoned pro teams we'll have to go to them.

All good questions let me see if I can answer them all for you.

1 – Like most, they have real life jobs and/or school to deal with. For those with jobs, they save their vacation times for paintball and have limited time off outside of national events. It’s one of the many sacrifices they make to play nationally. For those still in school they have to work with their professors to either make up the missed work ahead of time or in some cases do the work while at the events. The nice thing about technology – you can email your homework in from anywhere in the world. As for practice – everyone is fairly local to Fox 4 Paintball, so we can practice every weekend without incurring any/much travel expense. However, this is also one of the sacrifices they make to play at the top level – most every weekend is consumed by paintball – either reffing, practicing or playing an event.

2 - Unfortunately our location will play a major role in our first event. With the first event usually in Mid Mach we simply won’t have any outdoor practice time unless we travel somewhere south for a weekend. This limits us to indoor practice and some cold outdoor practices if we want to snowblow the field off. I haven’t really sat down and thought about how the first event will go just yet, but the reality of the situation is we’ll have limited practice time heading into the event – we’ll most likely struggle a bit. My goal is to make the points competitive. Even if we lose 1-7 I’d like to believe that we’ll push the other team and they’ll be able to learn from the match as well.

3 – Are you asking about 2012? If so, I think the answer is none. There are currently no other teams in the New England area that are ready to make the jump to Pro. The jump from local/regional paintball to national paintball is much tougher than most players believe. Just look at the teams from New England that have ventured to national events over the past several years. For the most part they have struggled to perform well. If you’re asking about anytime in the future, then you have to look at the teams with solid support behind them. Teams with an organization that supports them and helps them grow. It wouldn’t surprise me if an organization like TNN or Identity could eventually produce a pro team.

4 – Halloween store in the now closed Border’s Book Store near the mall.

Will you guys be taking some time off of paintball since its the off season or continuing to put in the work to get ready for next season?

Any plans to fly to Florida to practice Damage or any other pro teams during the off season?

I heard something about you guys practicing against the Ironmen during this season how often did you guys practice pro teams?

Next weekend the team will be working on putting away the airball field at Fox 4 Paintball - with the winter months fast approaching we need to pick up and put away before things get wrecked.

We'll be looking at our off season training options - in the past I've discussed practicing with Damage with Joey - hopefully we can work something out. As for the Ironmen practice - not sure where you heard that, but it's not true. We never practiced against the Ironmen this past year. In fact, we never practiced against a pro team this past season.

Our primary focus in the off season was individual skills and conditioning. During the season we practiced against the best possible players in New England - that includes: NEAA, Shipyard, Section 8, Boston Reapers, Eldorado Gunfighters, TNN and lots of points against ourselves. I'm sorry if I missed any teams - We truly appreciate the teams that come out to practice at Fox 4 as they give us many different "looks" to how a field can be played.

Fox 4 holds rotations (organized practices) most every weekend if they're not running a tournament. upTon 187 cRew participates in those practices and we schedule games against all the teams (though out the year - not all in one practice).

We believe firmly in giving back to the community. How will the lower division teams get better if no team above them will practice them? Just doesn't make sense to us not to do it.

Since 187 is now Pro, do we get more APPA points for practicing against them . On a more serious note, will this new pro status help bring some more industry paintball to the northeast?

Josh,

You'll now earn double the points in practice - (0 X 2 = 0)

As for your othe question - can you elaborate a bit more - I don't quite follow your question. Are you asking if they'll hold a tournament in the northeasat due to the fact that there is a pro team in New England....I don't think so. The event in NJ is most likely the closest thing we'll get - and it's a great event.

Most likely, although we didn't do it often last year except usually right before an event. For the most part we practice with ourselves on Saturdays and go to Fox 4 on Sundays to practice in the rotations with other teams around the area.

What would you consider a "successful" first year in pro. IE Season End ranking, number of events making sunday, making semis/ finals?

The highest a new pro team ever achieved was 4th by Impact and vicious took 11th CEP 12th Aftermath 10th Damage 8th. Out of all those teams in their first year they made semis or finals three times combined in their first year.

(My personal prediction is somewhere 6-9 in rankings, two sundays, one semis or finals)
