Question Tippmann 98 Two-Way E-Bolt Ram

Hey PBNation, I'm interested in getting a Two-way E-bolt ram for a project 98 Custom that I'm working on. Anyone have experience making one? I'm looking for some tips. I'm also not sure what to make it out of, or where to get the raw materials. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm in the process of making one (out of several in the past). I'm starting with round bar stock 6061 aluminum and turning it to Natural Newbie's print. The rod guide/ram cap is made out of brass and the rod is turned from ss bar stock. You could get around having to make all the more precision cuts by buying a ram and setting it into a holder of sorts, but where's the fun in that?

I usually get my material from McMaster-Carr.

would it be possible to use the rod from a stock ebolt? also, what drill and tap size did you use to install the barbs?

For a two way ram, yes. A stock rod/piston would work fine in a two way ram with a seal replacement. The U-ring on standard e-bolts need to be replaced with an o-ring.

I use 10-32 threads on both ports because most QEV's have that thread, and it seems hose barbs are more common with that thread.

This does require modifying the Natural Newbie drawing though. Actually, that isn't the only change I usually make.

Primarily just the location of the front barb and the surface that barb axis parallels. Then, in stead of a simple groove for the rear fitting I cut a circular pocket to allow a QEV to thread into that port.

Hey greenman, I'll get to your PM in a minute, and the answer to your offer is yes. Also, first out (the guy helping you here) actually modified my ram that you're about to buy. Like I mentioned, the ram in the housing is not sealed, so you will need an o-ring (or two?) to do that, maybe first out can help you with the exact size since he modified mine.

By the way, first out, that ram served me well for a year or so, thanks!
