Did it feel weird when your unit deployed without you?

So I've been out for about six months. Looking for a job, living in Northern VA ect, ect

and I just found out my old unit is deploying. Talked to a buddy of mine who is at Quantico and we both found it weird for our old battalion to be deploying without us.

Anyone else feel that way? Not that I regret leaving, I don't. But its just an odd feeling.

You're gone to them. Very few will keep in touch with you, if any at all.

Oh no doubt. Really, only a couple have. And I was surprised by them.

It still feels ... odd

It doesn't feel as weird after a few times.

I'll be doing my third deployment soon, and each has been with a different unit. The strangen part, being an attachment, is getting to know a group of guys for 8+ months on work ups and deployment, then.... Poof, gone forever.

Some of those guys... Man, I watched them go from super boot to team leader. I made some good friendships, then.... "have a nice life, we'll never meet again".

It sucks, but you get used to it. I'm already meeting people from my next unit... and the feeling of "I'm going to be leaving you" is a ****ed up one.
