I'm looking to get into the world of rc cars. If anyone would care to direct me to maybe a site or give me a quick run down about nitro and electric cars id appreciate it. Again I know absolutely nothing about them, I just discovered that some are nitro'd and not electric.

What do you plan on doing with one? Race or run around your back yard?
Off road or carpet/ on road?
Car, truck or buggy? 2wd or 4wd

Is there a hobby shop in your area for parts and assistance? You'll need both


I race ( if you can call it that) electric cars on carpet oval at my local hobby shop ( LHS).
There are different classes of cars and trucks and different rules apply.

Short Course truck is the most popular models at this time. One of the shops had 90 trucks show up on a Thursday to race!

If you plan on running a truck in your back yard / empty lot, look at Traxxas. They seem to be very durable and very popular. You can even get parts at PEP Boys, although their pricing isn't great.

Electric seems to be the easiest/ cleanest but you have to deal with chargers and batteries.
Nitro has its quirks as well. Tuning, noisy, smell..

Neither is cheap.
Both can be fast.

I just started 2wd short course racing. It's super popular and cheap to start. Like other guys have said electric is much easier and with huge lipos and brushless motors the nitros don't have any advantage.
