I have played at fields where marker hits count and I have also played at a few fields where marker hits don't count.
What is your view and general opinion on this rule?
Should marker hits count as out or not?
In tournament play: All gear counts.
In scenario and recreational: That's completely up to the field to decide, doesn't change the fact that I have no intention of putting my marker out to get shot, I hate having to do excess cleaning, and risk hand shots.
i agree this is totally field dependant, however being in the military i have alot of friends who claim they would be more interested in playing paintball if gun hits didnt count, which makes sense to an extent, we are talking about a bunch of guys who actually have tactical training and what not and dont care if their gun gets shot in battle as long as the bullet doesnt hit them. but as someone who is in the military and is an avid fan of all things paintball i would be very upset if they suddenly decided everywhere that gun hits didnt count.
I think that gun hits should count. Many times I've been playing rec ball in the woods and all you can see is the side of a guys mask and his gun, and it sucks because you either have to wait forever for him/her to expose more of themselves as a target, or you have to go through tons of paint to try and hit such a small target. It really slows down the game when gun hits don't count.
while staying somewhat on topic.... i was at a field yesterday that didnt count head hits. Thought it was pretty stupid, but i guess their reasoning was because the newer players would always stick their heads out and get out within the first minute of the game. So to make it a little more fun for the new players and to keep them coming back they made it easier for them. I can understand the reasoning, so i didnt care if they didnt go out... but i still called myself out if i was hit in the face
It's up to the field to make that choice. My personal opition is marker hits count. Recball or speedball I play that way. I played with a guy who didn't know that marker hits count, but we told him anyways. I shot him in his marker and I prepared to shoot the next guy. I look to check that he is walkign out and I see his gun sticking out still. I turn to shooting him again and I shot his marker 6 times and then said to him that he was out. He said marker hits count? I just find things like that don't happen if you play all hits count. Because trying to figure out where to hit the guy if he plays smart is very hard.
