You guys are essentially just stealing the sponsorship perks from the teams that have earned them, which is especially devious considering the fact that your target market is COLLEGE kids (read='broke as <del>****</del>').

I was looking forward to this, but now that I see what's going on, ya'll can count me out.

EDIT: The PSP and MSXL also offer decent prize packages. What's the prizes for NCPA? Entry to Nationals? Of course, it's an opportunity to spend more money, sweet.
The prize question has been beaten to death before, so I'm not going to address that.

Our events are inexpensive comparatively to play. The paint prices are not excessive by any means, nor does us having a sponsor paint only policy prevent you from using your sponsor's paint at practices and scrimmages. Making a claim that we're somehow 'stealing' sponsorship's from players is absurd.

My apologies, that was poorly worded, however to the teams who fund this league, the effect is no different than if you were stealing sponsorships. You guys get more money from the paint companies, AND we have to pay more for paint than we normally would. That is backward.

You aren't paying any more for paint than you would have otherwise. Again, while we don't as a league restrict events to being FPO, most field owners aren't willing to host BYOP events. Accordingly, they sell paint, and we negotiate prices with them to be at a discounted rate from retail.

If we didn't have a sponsor-paint-only policy, you still wouldn't be able to BYOP to most events (Nationals excluded), and the cost of paint to each team is still the same. To summarize: cost of paint for the teams stays the same, and the league is able to subsidize costs.

The new paint policy will have no impact on whether events are FPO or BYOP. It will mean that *IF* one of the paint manufacturers chooses to not be a paint sponsor, then FPO events won't sell that paint and you won't be able to use that paint at BYOP events.

My expectation is that all of the major paint manufacturers will be league sponsors. It's only $4k each for the season (assuming 4 of them do it) and that includes nationals.

I guess that's my gripe then, why are we playing at fields that won't allow byop?

The MSXL does it, so don't tell me those fields can't be found.

$45 for Stinger? That seems rather excessive to me. I pay 45 for Evil, or Gold.

EDIT: If we have to use Kee only for paint, I don't care. I'll bring Kee paint to events from my sponsor then.

In general, the difference in entry fees for a FPO event against a BYOP event would make the cost savings to teams nil, even with teams receiving paint at MAP prices.

You also have the options of Formula 13 and Evil. F13 is offered $10 lower than MSRP, and Evil is offered about $20 below MSRP.

You're more than welcome to bring your paint to BYOP events. Remember, though, that MWGL #1 is not one of them.

We don't. We just have events where FPO is the way the event is priced.

MSXL also charges a much higher entry fee that we do.

No they don't. It's higher for race-to-2, but only by $100. The extra paint costs will make this event more expensive for a team to play than it would an MSXL.

MSXL Race-to-2 early-bird entry is $250, early bird entry for NCPA Race-to-2 is $150.

MSXL sells their paint at $35/$40 for some damn good paint.

Assuming teams shoot 10-15 cases, at ~$15-20 MORE than they would at an MSXL (which is also BYOP), you're talking $50-$200 more in costs per team.

EDIT: To add, NCPA Class A is $3800 up front and you play what, 3 events? Maybe 4 if you attend nationals? MSXL is $500/event, and there are 4 in a season (total = $2000 IF you attend all of them), so to claim they charge much higher entry fees is just flat out deceptive.

That might be a record for time it takes for someone to contradict their own statement .

Their entry is 67% higher than ours for RaceTo-2.

Here's the difference: MSXL has that paint brought in just for their events. The fields don't sell that paint, MSXL does. Accordingly, they keep the profits, and they can use the profits from those paint sales to help offset the costs of renting the facility. Also, they sell it at $40, not $35.

It's $10 more per case. At 10 cases, that's $100, which is the difference in entry fees. Again, as pointed out before, it's a wash in our case.

The NCPA has a $30 per line sanction fee; the remainder of the entry fee is paid to the field for organizing the event and covers air fees, field fees, refs, trophies, and any other event-related expenses.

honestly people need to stop complaining and play some paintball. The NCPA is doing everything it can to make it cheaper to play for us broke college kids. It takes a lot to run a national organization. If it weren't for these guys volunteering their time, this wouldn't be possible. Thank you NCPA, most of us understand your doing all you can

Ive played in plenty of tournaments with higher paints prices and very few field owners are willing to shut down their field for a tournament with 8 teams for byop. Fields survive on paint sales.

Timestamps on these two posts made me smile

I have something fun in the works. At the latest, we'll decide a layout the week before the event. Hopefully sooner.
