I'd look here, I haven't personally used it but it seems to have all the right specs, check out some reviews, but you'll want a ball head and CF if you can find it.

ok before i get flamed i have been doing research for about a month now trying to figure out where to start. im gonna get my first dslr and i would like a camera that, assuming it doesnt break, i wont grow out of for a couple years. i know i wont need the latest and greatest right off the bat, but i dont want something that i will want to replace a couple months down the road. what i have narrowed my choices down to would be canon 60d or t2i or nikon d3100 or d5100. i dont really want to spend the extra money if im not gonna be able to use the extra features, but also i dont want to skimp now and end up replacing it in a couple months when i start learning what im doing. i would like to shoot paintball baseball and concerts mostly if that helps. sry its so long but any help or suggestions would be very appreciated.

don't forget you need to spend just as much if not more on lenses. The most popular paintball lens is the 70-200 f/4L at $550

okay, good. Just making sure you realize that as I've had people ask me how to "extend the built in lens in their new DSLR"

Honestly, if you don't need video, the 50D has a few extra features and arguably better build structure than the 60D. I shoot Canon so I can't comment accurately on nikon

Look into a 40D, instead. The 50D is practically a downgrade from the 40D. Even though the body isn't alloy like the 50D is, you get a better ISO performance from the 40D (which you'll want if you're shooting concerts) and I've found that a lot of the images from a 40D look better than a 50D, IMO. The 50D is basically just a 40D with extra bells and whistles, none which are super important. Save yourself some money and get the 40D if you want to go the Canon route.

There's really no reason to buy a new camera, IMO. Just make sure you look at photos, ask for updated ones if the photos are from a couple years ago or something. As far as shutter count, you'll probably find 40Ds with a 40k-50k give or take. Anything above 80k, I'd pass on.

for your first I'd stay under 40,000 if at all possible, the shutter goes anywhere between 50,000 and 120,000 usually, and it's a ~$250 fix from canon. Check out Photography-on-the.net they have a great and free BST section, and other good resources.

How/where do you find out how many clicks are on the shutter?

If you buy from a reliable retailer - and they have the applicable software available - they ought to be able to tell you.

you can also download depending on the camera. Some, like my 30D need to be sent to canon to get a reading, whereas my 1D II has the info right in the exif.

Depends on the camera, but a quick google search comes up with tons of programs that tell you

Quick question, a friend of mine is having his first show at an indoor venue. What are some good settings that will let in enough light but not over expose the picture? I usually do outdoor/action photography so this is different for me.

Thanks.

drop the aperature as much as the lens will let you, run iso around 800. then play around from there.
