anyone else on here like to bbq? not grill but real south style bbq smoking? I'm looking for new recipes and such and there seems to be no bbq threads.

also, i'm working on building a new smoker from a 55gal steel drum and i'm not sure if i wanna go upright or sideways with an offset firebox. any input is appreciated!

Oh, it is. Highly recommended. It's best sliced on a cheap whitebread bun covered in BBQ sauce

Assuming you can weld, you need at least 3/16in thick steel and offset without question. 36" is what Id shoot for diameter wise. Dont forget to make places for your temp gauge. Smoking meat is an art. The reason there arent any recipies is because its simple. Just hard. 40/60 salt to pepper rub, throw a 10-12lb brisket on the smoker and go 12 hours at 225*. You can play from there.
