The FED is counterfeiter of last resort. Besides, every time the congress spends more than the country takes in, the FED loans it out to them and to Congress knows this. It already has oversight in the sense they can get all the money they could ever want from the FED. Besides, RP's goal isn't for more congressional oversight of our FED but to dismantle it entirely and legalize Constitutional money (gold, silver) and allow for competing currencies by not taxing gains in value of gold and silver.
Get your facts right on a candidate before you start regurgitating what you think you know based on baseless claims by pundits.
Also, why shoudn't we as Americans know who and what the FED is lending OUR currency to? Why should we be subsidizing banks abroad when we have our own problems here? Why should we allow the FED to prop up failed or failing markets abroad and domestically? It only encourages lobbying and special interests at the expense of the individual with absolutely no power and less say in the matter.

Again, why would knowledge solely in monetary theory make one a better adviser at the fed than knowledge in any of those other sections of economic thought?

Also if you are refering to city-data.com that site is less accurate then either the ACS or the Census Bureau. The St. Cloud area has a very little worse then (Minnesota) average poverty rate from 1990-2009 NOT double. </end rant>

You're right with your statistics, and I realized that I made an error by not quoting the right demographic in my original post. I had been basing my numbers on families with children from this article that I had originally read in the St. Cloud Times (you can't get the original link on their website anymore, but here's a copy below). I didn't get a chance to proofread my post and I messed it up. My apologies.
"Sept. 29--New data released Tuesday by the U.S. Census Bureau show the struggling economy is pushing a growing number of St. Cloud families into poverty.
The American Community Survey estimates show 31.6 percent -- nearly one-third -- of St. Cloud families with related children under 18 years had an income below the poverty level in 2009.
That's substantially higher than the number of Minnesota families with children in poverty, 12 percent, and nearly double the national figure of 17 percent."
Also, beware lumping District 6 together. It is one of the most oddly-drawn districts I have ever seen. It includes St. Cloud, which is a fast-growing but poor area while simultaneously including the extremely wealth Western suburbs of the Twin Cities and the extremely wealthy Eastern suburbs like Stillwater, Dellwood, etc. Trying to interpret anything statistically meaningful for the district as a whole is an exercise in futility.
