Bolt out back shell!!!

What is the best BOB shell for an ion. I really hate having to Take the gun apart to get to the bolt and I'm willin to cough up some $$$$ so I can easily maintain my ion

Lucky 5.1. It replaces the entire upper assembly.

the shocktech body is pretty good, and you can pick them up for about $50.

i was looking at the shocktech myself. Do you have to remove the donut when you install it? Could I just by the shocktech body and a new firing can so that i don't have to remove the donut from my old firing can? (the nano extreme does not fit the epiphany firing can, so I thought I could solve 2 problems at once?)

Yes, you have to remove your stock donut but i guess if you just want to buy a new firing can, go for it.

removing the donut is easy, but yes you could just get a new can. I don't know what you are talking about the bolt not fitting, going from the epiphany firebolt in the stock epiphany can into an ANS Warrior can fit fine.

I have a Lucky 5.1 setup and i gotta say.. it is a total collection of garbage machine work. I wouldn't recommend looking for one of them...
The reasons i say this...
I tried this body kit..used on eBay...but looked brand spankin' new.
The first thing it did was jam up and not cycle.
I figured "my bad" i didn't lube it up right or missed something.
Took it apart, carefully lubed it.
It cycled 2 times, then chopped the o-ring on the lucky bolt neatly into two pieces. (the one on the bolt that slides into the Lucky bolt stop)
I figured.. wrong size o-ring... this would explain the not cycling and the chopped rubber.
I replaced every o-ring in it, assembled it, then had a leak... found out I had to file my rear banjo screw down, as it protruded into the same space that the back cap screws into and shredded one of those o-rings. (had they gone 1 mm thicker on the boss for the rear banjo, and this wouldn't have happened)
No leaks..140 PSI (I wasn't using the chamber volume reducing rings that came with the kit yet) cycled it 5 times... leaks again..found it had chopped another bolt o-ring.
Tried a 90 hard o-ring i had from another kit, on the bolt.. it chopped that after 5 -10 cycles. I do not have a urethane oring this size.. and was frsutrated with the lucky Bolt set up... so...I tried a stock ION bolt and bolt stop, but the machining in the back cap, behind the o-rings is so rough, it would not seal on the rear o-ring, and... the rear o-ring in the Lucky cap interferes with the stock tail o-ring. (so i would have to use their bolt, or a tail-less bolt)
So.. I bought a TechT L7 tail-less bolt... it wouldn't cycle.. the SFT(Seal Forward Technology) o-ring was so tight, the bolt stuck forward..I tried 3 different o-rings (from the Lucky kit, a 90 I had from another ION kit, and the urethane one from my stock ion stuff, and its still too tight...I tried the lucky bolt, and a stock ION bolt..all too tight(so it wasn't the TechT bolt). I will try to figure out how to deepen the SFT oring grove.. and try again.. For now, I have a set of stock ION parts lined up to replace this lucky stuff (I'm building a spare ION)

Maybe this is just a bad collection of parts, and some good ones were actually made... Maybe that's why the guy on eBay was selling it.

On a positive note... my cocker threaded barrel screws in fine (unlike so many other people complain about)... i guess I'm lucky there.

LOL
Your the 1st to get that one

no it sounds like you have bad luck with lucky products lol
But thats the risk we all take when you buy anything used
Plus Ebay is famous for fake ion/paintball parts

Eh... I'm just really disappointed cause I thought it was gonna be "The S#!t" and its so poorly machined in so many spots its almost unusable.

Do you have one?
If so, do you use the Lucky Bolt that came with it? (I have the one with the smooth tail and two o-rings in the rear cap)
Again, if so.. what kind of o-ring do you use on the bolt?
and lastly
How tight is the SFT O-ring on the bolt?

Thanks in advance for any info ( I better quit jackin' this thread... sorry)

its because i have this:

the diameter of the spring at the end is the same as the inner diameter of a stock ion firing can. Which is about 2mm bigger than that of the epiphany..

^^Every time i see that bolt it makes me wonder how it works, only thing that makes sense is the dual tail ring

i would say that the spring forces it to act as a one piece bolt. I just think it looks plain cool

I had some problems with it since i was using a delirin clone of a L7 as a front bolt. BUt it didn't have the hole drilled out in the shaft. This meant that the "orange arrow" didn't sink into the front bolt like it should and it couldn't go back far enough. So I switched it for my L7 and put the delirin copy with the L7 boltstop and pin in the other marekr.

The forward motion of the bolt is spring assisted. Less air pressure needed to propel a ball. Opposite of a FASOR... a BASAF, i guess you could say. But that exact picture is only an upgrade to the original Orange bolt, that by itself wouldn't work.

Has the op ever come back to this thread?

The nano upgrade looks to me as if the spring moves the two o-ring "tail" forward to seal off the firing can from incoming air when the bolt is forward.
The the "tail" is held open, to fill the chamber, by the rear of the bolt when it is open.

Does this sound about right?

I would imagine the spring helps the forward motion of the bolt somewhat, but the volume and pressure required to propel the ball at a given FPS should be the same regardless of the spring no? As the bolt/spring combination is not what propels the ball.. but the "air" is...

Can this upgrade be used with a TechT L7 successfully?

The nano upgrade only works with the Orange Nano bolt. I doubt the dimensions are precisely identical to the L7 enough to work properly. Also, i think the L7 works better by itself than the entire orange nano w/ extreme upgrade kit.

This is the Nano by itself, as a direct stock bolt replacement:

The Extreme upgrade replaces the Nano's Y-shaped back half with the tophat/bolt stop, stand-alone tail, and spring. Air alone propels the ball, but air pressure also moves the bolt to that forward position - with the spring, air doesn't have to move the bolt forward by itself.

edit: i think we've strayed very far from the original post...

Last night, i developed mixed feelings about my shocktech body.

Wanted to relube for the weekend, but the backcap would not come off. Rear frame screw off and it should be free, but it wouldn't budge. I had to completely disassemble the ion, then wiggle the breech & firing can out the front to loosen the backcap. I was annoyed, to say the least.
