Tried 50 cal today
Alright so i tried 50 cal today and im going to kind of talk about what i found.
First things first i shot a sl8r with the conversion kit as soon as i put it in i was shooting 380 with 50cal so i backed it down (proof that you will get better effiency)
The gun went from having some kick to it to being the smoothest gun that i have ever shot. Also the weight diffrence is unbelieveable. Just from basically changing from a rotor to the spyder 9volt and the stock pe barrel to the 50 cal kit makes soooo much diffrence.
I have to give credit where credit it due and thats to spyder. They have made a solid product in that hopper. I wish they would make one that is that good for 68 lol. The hopper keeps up perfect with psp no problem at all.
On another note i was extreemly!!!! disapointed with the paint mark that it left. Even just shooting it on wood from literally 2 feet away left a mark the size of my thumb, im not exaggerating in the least bit. The paint was great (formula 13). But it just sucks because i see what people have been saying that people in the psp would be wiping it all day long as they lol at the refs for trying to catch them. The paint does lose velocity really quick compared to 68 but i have came to a conclusion
Will 50 cal take in the woods.....no. The range just isnt there
Does 50 cal have a chance in nppl......no
Does 50cal have a chance in psp ......YES!
From what i can tell if the psp went to the smaller field like they had 50 cal could actually be affective. Off the break the chances of you shooting someone going to corner and it breaking isnt very good unless you put your paint in a cooler(which works). But if someone trys to go to like snake1 or dorito1 ont he field you have a vvery good chance of it breaking. I like the format from the stand point of it would have people being more aggressive on the field.
Also the paint the farther away it gets has less and less accuracy more so than 68. in 68 shooting from say a 40 yard line to a back corner the grouping is about a 1 foot window. With 50 cal it around a 2ish foot window
Overall i think if you are only playing psp i think 50 cal is worth looking into. If you play woods or nppl i wouldnt waste your time or your money unless you are just a super aggressive player. The balll losing speed isnt what makes me have doubts its the fact that the splat mark isnt anywhere near what you would expect. Refs would have a hard time even in the psp being able to tell if it was rub, or what.
Thoughts, i hope this helps someone that was in my position where i was on the line about it.

I think Xball has a good chance of picking up .50cal as well just for the fact you shoot tons of paint....

exactly also something that is an interesting thought is people would be taking more ground off the break so the games would be more fast paced, they would be extreemly exciting to watch. I hope to god the psp atleast takes a look at it. To me thats the thing that sucks about the psp this year is they are making these fields that are condusisve for sitting int he corners and blowing through 9 pods of paint. If they had 50cal people would be up so quick the games would be going as fast as they use to back in the days of the NXL.....those were the good days

once problem that i do see is how would the psp make the transition. Here is the biggest issue if you offer it just as another option like a 50cal league what would the incentive be to having teams from d1 and d2 or 3 go into that. It really is something to think about though. I think it would be so interesting to see though.

The pistols argument is probably a separate issue all-together, though I've had the opportunity to use .50 in a pistol & it was horrible. I only managed to hit one individual, from about 10ft away & have the paint break - with every other shot either being a miss or just bounce right off.
Of course, pistols are personal preference, but have their own inherent disadvantages on the field - only made worse if you throw .50 on top of it.

Looks like someone can't handle a challenge.
All the challenge of stock class pump play but with out the, you know, pumping. I've had a blast on the airball field with nothing but a T8 and a pocket full of mags.
However, while .50 cal would be better than .43 for pistols, I'd rather stick to the easier breaking .68 cal. It's hard enough to get a good hit with such a self imposed handicap, having a ball that's inherently more likely to bounce will just get frustrating.

My first case is coming from ANSGear (4k F13 @ $65), I'm looking for somewhere a little more local for future purchases because I bet it's gonna be a little bouncy by the time I shoot it -_-

The fact that they bounce has more to do with the shell thickness then the gun or cal size. If manufactures would reduce the thickness, range would be about the biggest problem for 50cal.

The problem with reducing the shell thickness very much is with transport and storage. They will dimple and become less round quicker.
