its kinda a wierd choice and i get that, but the compositions are just so ****ing tasty and the production is tighter than the more famous ones

the band interplay isnt as good which is kind of to be expected after the first incarnation broke up b/c you cant just replace those guys even if they are probably dicks - also, b/c the musicians arent as talented sometimes the songs feel like john telling people what to do moreso than jazz

still a great ****ing album

Mahavishnu is great. I only have this album and The Inner Mountain Flame though. I forget which one I like better since I haven't listened to them in months.

The Lost Trident Sessions gets a lot of play. Dream is wonderfully composed, Sister Andrea carries along marvelously, and I Wonder has such an awesome opening. J Mac really digs into some Santana-esque licks and it's pretty pleasing.

*EDIT* And I'll get flack for this, but I prefer Goodman's playing over Ponty. Both great in their own right but Goodman really just nails his place in the mix and contributes with beautiful, creative lines. Not as eloquent or high brow as Ponty, but visceral, just like everyone else's style in the pre-1974 lineup.
