i got it for really cheap, dont really want to sink to much into it. is the stock asa/reg any good?

The stock asa/reg is mediocre at best. Definitely recommend upgrading.

Do you know if you have the new or the old version? The new one has a screw-in section behind the bolt. The old one is held in by a pin.

You'll need to buy a different VA than that. Something like this one: Link!

stock asa/reg is crap, just buy a used reg and asa here in BST section or on ebay
